Role Context

The AP English Teacher will join Dubai American Academy for opportunities beginning in August 2026. The school delivers an American curriculum from PreK to Grade 12 and is authorized to provide the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The teacher will plan and deliver rigorous High School English lessons aligned with AP expectations and the school 's curriculum standards. Instruction will develop literary interpretation, rhetorical analysis, evidence-based argument, academic writing, research, speaking, and independent learning. The role also includes assessment, curriculum coordination, progress monitoring, parent communication, safeguarding, and active participation in the wider academic life of Dubai American Academy.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging AP English lessons aligned with school curriculum requirements and relevant Advanced Placement standards.
• Teach literary analysis, rhetorical analysis, academic writing, argumentation, research, grammar, and communication skills.
• Prepare students for AP English assessments through structured instruction, examination practice, and targeted feedback.
• Select appropriate fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, speeches, and multimedia texts that support curriculum objectives.
• Develop creative and inquiry-based learning activities that encourage interpretation, discussion, and independent thought.
• Help students construct clear, evidence-based arguments and communicate complex ideas effectively.
• Build students ' confidence in close reading, analytical writing, oral presentations, and academic discussion.
• Prepare detailed lesson plans with clear learning objectives, success criteria, and assessment methods.
• Ensure continuity and consistency in curriculum delivery across classes and academic terms.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, learning profiles, and language backgrounds.
• Provide targeted intervention for students requiring additional academic support.
• Develop extension activities for high-achieving students and those seeking greater academic challenge.

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor of Education degree with an English specialization.
• Alternatively, a relevant bachelor 's degree combined with a PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent recognized teaching qualification in English.
• Proven experience teaching High School English.
• Previous experience teaching AP English is strongly preferred.
• Experience within an American curriculum or IB curriculum school is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of English language, literature, rhetoric, writing, and literary criticism.
• Understanding of Advanced Placement assessment expectations and examination preparation.
• Familiarity with inquiry-based and student-centered teaching approaches.
• Ability to design lessons that develop analytical reading, critical thinking, and academic writing.
