Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

The AI Applications Engineer is responsible for building, owning, operating, and expanding Euro Mechanical’s AI and application platform within the company’s Microsoft Azure environment.

The position will establish a secure, governed, and company-owned technology foundation for delivering AI, automation, document-processing, analytics, and back-office solutions across the group. Working closely with business units, IT, and specialist delivery partners, the role will identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual effort, improve operational efficiency, and lower unnecessary costs.

The role requires end-to-end ownership of the platform and its solutions from initial design and development through deployment, monitoring, maintenance, optimisation, documentation, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of Euro Mechanical’s AI and application platform on Microsoft Azure in accordance with the agreed architecture, security framework, and IT governance requirements.
• Build and maintain the platform’s data layer, model-access layer, integrations, development environment, and supporting cloud infrastructure.
• Take ownership of the platform following go-live, including its day-to-day operation, reliability, performance, security, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Work closely with specialist delivery partners during the platform implementation to ensure that technical capability, design knowledge, code, and operational expertise are transferred to Euro Mechanical.
• Engage with business units and functional teams to identify AI, automation, analytics, and process-improvement opportunities.
• Translate business requirements into practical, measurable, and technically viable AI and automation solutions.
• Develop AI assistants, knowledge agents, copilots, document-processing solutions, and back-office automation using approved enterprise AI technologies.
• Build solutions using Microsoft Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft Copilot, approved large language models, and other authorised Microsoft technologies.
• Design and optimise Retrieval-Augmented Generation solutions, including document structuring, embeddings, retrieval methods, knowledge updates, and prompt engineering.
• Develop prototypes and convert approved use cases into secure, production-ready applications.
• Deliver practical business solutions such as sales inbox automation, accounts receivable and accounts payable automation, bid-generation support, document analysis, and profitability analytics.
• Establish appropriate evaluation methods to measure solution accuracy, reliability, adoption, cost, performance, and business impact.
• Optimise model selection, token consumption, response latency, scalability, and operational cost.
• Integrate AI and automation solutions with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power Platform, and other approved company systems and data sources.
• Develop and maintain APIs, data pipelines, application interfaces, and system integrations across multiple business platforms.
• Apply appropriate application-development practices to ensure that solutions are secure, maintainable, scalable, and suitable for production use.
• Monitor platform availability, system performance, integration health, security events, usage, and cloud expenditure.
• Troubleshoot technical issues, implement corrective actions, and continuously improve platform stability and performance.
• Maintain complete technical documentation for the platform, applications, integrations, configurations, deployment processes, and operating procedures.
• Ensure that solutions remain maintainable and transferable and are not unnecessarily dependent on external vendors.
• Work in accordance with Euro Mechanical’s AI and Application Infrastructure Policy, data-classification requirements, access-control standards, responsible-AI principles, and audit requirements.
• Apply privacy, cybersecurity, data-protection, and secure-by-design principles throughout the solution lifecycle.
• Coordinate with IT, business-unit leaders, functional teams, cloud vendors, technology partners, and other internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and clearly explain AI and application concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Support the organisation’s long-term development of internal AI, application, automation, and data capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or another relevant technical discipline.
• Minimum five years of hands-on experience in cloud engineering, software development, artificial intelligence, data engineering, or automation.
• Demonstrable experience in taking end-to-end ownership of a technology platform or significant production solution, including building, deploying, operating, and maintaining it.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including compute, storage, networking, security, monitoring, and cloud-governance fundamentals.
• Practical experience developing AI solutions using Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft Copilot, enterprise large language models, or similar cloud-based AI services.
• Strong knowledge of generative AI, including AI assistants, agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, embeddings, vector search, and prompt engineering.
• Experience developing data layers, data pipelines, integrations, and applications that use information from multiple systems and sources.
• Strong API-development and system-integration experience.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience integrating applications with Microsoft Dynamics 365, preferably Finance and Operations.
• Experience with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power Platform, Power Automate, or similar enterprise automation tools.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining secure, production-ready applications rather than only configuring infrastructure.
• Good understanding of application security, identity and access management, data protection, auditability, and cloud-governance requirements.
• Experience monitoring and optimising cloud-platform performance, scalability, availability, and cost.
• Ability to document technical architecture, integrations, application logic, operational procedures, and support requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
• Ability to work within an agreed architecture while contributing to solution design and future platform development.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical audiences.
• High level of integrity, accountability, dependability, and attention to detail.
• A hands-on, proactive, and results-oriented approach with the ability to independently manage a live technology platform.
• Relevant Microsoft Azure certifications, such as Azure Developer Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate, or Azure AI Engineer Associate, would be an advantage.
• Experience with multi-agent or agentic workflow design, tool orchestration, Model Context Protocol, agent-to-agent messaging, RPA, vector databases, and retrieval optimisation would be advantageous.
• Experience transferring technical knowledge and operational capability from an external delivery partner into an internal team would be beneficial.

The role is classified under the Strategic Projects Department at Grade 16, with the position based in Abu Dhabi or performed remotely within a UAE-overlapping time zone.
