Contract - Data Scientist - Johannesburg - Banking

Penta Consulting are currently searching for an Data Scientist with experience working with trading data. This role will be based onsite in Johannesburg South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Build and deploy ML models for financial forecasting and trading strategies
• Work with high-frequency trading data and apply normalization techniques
• Use market data and technical indicators to optimize algorithms
• Collaborate with data science, trading, and engineering teams
• Deploy models via AWS (especially SageMaker)
• Resolve technical issues in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor's or Master’s in Computer Science, Quant Finance, Statistics, or related field

Required Skills

• 5+ years in global markets and data analysis
• Strong in SQL, Python, AWS, and QuickSight
• Expertise in time-series, neural networks, and statistical modelling
• Proven experience with trading algorithms (must-have)
• Familiar with tools like Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, and change management systems
