Breakdown Controller
Job summary
A logistics firm is seeking an experienced Breakdown Controller to manage vehicle breakdowns efficiently. Key responsibilities include monitoring breakdown calls, dispatching teams, and maintaining records. The ideal candidate should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience, excellent communication skills, and a Matric qualification. This role requires the ability to work under pressure and a focus on customer service.
Qualifications
- 2–3 years’ experience in a breakdown control, fleet control, or operations control role.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to all breakdown calls.
- Dispatch breakdown teams and recovery vehicles.
- Track breakdown progress and provide updates.
- Maintain accurate records of breakdown incidents.
- Coordinate with suppliers and service providers.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing all vehicle or equipment breakdown incidents, ensuring prompt response, minimal downtime, and efficient communication with drivers, technicians, and clients.
- Monitor and respond to all breakdown calls promptly and efficiently.
- Dispatch breakdown teams, technicians, or recovery vehicles as needed.
- Track breakdown progress and provide real-time updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of all breakdown incidents on the system.
- Coordinate with suppliers, towing companies, and service providers when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
- Analyse breakdown trends and assist in implementing preventative solutions.
- Provide excellent customer service and support to drivers and clients.
- Matric / Grade 12.
- At least 2–3 years’ experience in a breakdown control, fleet control, or operations control role.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations professionally.
- Computer literate (MS Office and fleet management systems).
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
- Excellent coordination and multitasking abilities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to make quick and effective decisions.
- Customer-focused with a professional telephone manner.
- Team player with strong organisational skills.
