Introduction
Our client in Boksburg / Brakpan is seeking a highly experienced Workshop Manager to oversee a multidisciplinary technical workforce of approximately 30 staff. This role combines strong technical expertise with firm, structured managerial leadership — ensuring operational efficiency, cost control, equipment reliability and compliance with strict deadlines.
The ideal candidate will have deep technical knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines, strong people‑management ability, and proven experience running a large technical workshop or plant environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Workforce Management — Lead and manage a team of ±30 technical staff
Deadline Compliance — Ensure all work is completed within strict operational timeframes
Cost Control — Manage job cards, cost allocation, and operational expenditure
Multidisciplinary Technical Oversight — Oversee Power Generation, Welding (engine‑driven & inverter), Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Rigging divisions
Equipment Maintenance — Ensure proper maintenance of all plant and related equipment
Procurement Guidance — Source and guide procurement of spare parts and technical components
Operational Discipline — Maintain firm leadership while promoting an open‑door culture
Workflow & Efficiency — Ensure efficient workflow and quality workmanship across all divisions
Reporting — Report directly to the Plant Manager, with line function to the CEO and Operations Manager
Minimum Requirements
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a similar technical managerial role
Relevant technical or engineering qualification
Strong technical knowledge of:
Power generation systems up to 1000kVA
Engine‑driven and inverter welding systems
Electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic tools
Ability to manage job cards and cost‑control processes
Ability to source and procure spare parts
Basic computer literacy (essential)
Strong managerial presence — firm, structured, and able to lead a large technical team
Plant & equipment rental experience (advantageous)
