Job summary

Envision Energy South Africa seeks a Wind Turbine Product & Solutions Engineer to support the development, optimisation and delivery of wind turbine products and solutions for South African and regional wind projects.

Responsibilities include defining product roadmaps, leading system engineering efforts, analysing wind resources, and supporting bidding strategies with Sales and Technical Managers. Travel across SA and abroad approx. 30% will be required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Control).
• Strong background in wind turbine systems or wind energy is required.
• Experience with technical tenders, bids and proposals helpful.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Job description

We are looking for a Wind Turbine Product & Solutions Engineer to join our South African team and support the development, optimisation and delivery of wind turbine products and solutions for South African and regional wind projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate and understand the South African and regional markets' requirements, including but not limited to wind resources, government policies and regulations, customer requirements, project requirements and competitors.
• Based on market requirements, define the wind turbine product portfolio roadmap and corresponding product features and requirements for the South African and regional markets.
• Lead or jointly lead, as Chief System Engineer, the corresponding wind turbine product development.
• Work together with Project Technical Managers to analyse project wind resources and customer requirements and define the turbine product solutions, including but not limited to turbine models, additional features, layouts, site suitability and energy yield assessment.
• Work with Sales, Commercial and Technical Managers to define the bidding strategy and support the pricing strategy for South African and regional wind projects.
• Lead technical workshops and turbine system-level technical discussions with customers, developers and relevant project stakeholders.
• Lead or jointly lead field technical issue resolution for wind turbine products and projects in South Africa and the region.

Requirements

• Minimum Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Control Engineering.
• At least 5 years of working experience in the wind industry, with emphasis in either solution or product development. International or global wind industry experience will be an advantage.
• In-depth understanding of wind turbine systems and wind farm technical know-how is required.
• Good understanding of wind resource assessment, site suitability and energy yield assessment.
• Experience supporting technical tenders, bids and commercial proposals will be an advantage.
• Knowledge of the South African wind energy market, project requirements and regulatory environment will be an advantage.
• Good networking skills. Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues in different types of teams, customers, developers and project stakeholders.
• Well organised and proactive, with the ability to successfully work in a fast-paced and competitive environment with diverse people – clients and co-workers.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel within South Africa and abroad approximately 30% of the time, as required by the business and projects.

Additional Advantageous Experience

• Experience working on wind farm projects in South Africa or the broader African/SADC region.
• Experience working with international or multicultural teams.
• Experience engaging directly with customers and project stakeholders.
• Experience in wind turbine product development, solution engineering or system engineering.
• Knowledge of the South African renewable energy project development environment.
