Placements24 is seeking a skilled Welder for a contract role in Soweto, Gauteng. The ideal candidate will perform structural and industrial welding on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum using SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW while upholding strict safety standards.

You will read blueprints, prepare surfaces, fabricate and repair structural components, and collaborate with fabricators on site to meet project timelines. On-site roles require reliability and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Welder or equivalent.
• 3+ years' experience in structural/industrial welding.
• Ability to read welding symbols.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding using SMAW, GMAW, GTAW on steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
• Fabricate, assemble and repair structural steel components.
• Read blueprints and welding specs.
• Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning and grinding.

About the Role

Our client, a reputable fabrication and engineering company, is seeking a skilled and certified Welder specializing in structural and industrial fabrication to join their team on a contract basis in Soweto, Gauteng . This role is essential for the construction and repair of various industrial structures, machinery, and components. You will be responsible for performing high-quality welding using different techniques and materials, ensuring that all work meets stringent industry standards for strength, durability, and safety. The ideal candidate will possess excellent technical welding skills, a keen eye for detail, and a strong commitment to safety protocols. This is a hands‑on position that requires you to work efficiently and effectively on‑site, collaborating with other fabricators and tradespeople. Key Responsibilities

• Perform welding operations using various techniques such as SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), and GTAW (TIG) on a range of metals including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
• Fabricate, assemble, and repair structural steel components, equipment frames, and industrial machinery.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding specifications.
• Prepare metal surfaces for welding by cleaning, grinding, and shaping.
• Ensure welds are of high quality, free from defects, and meet all specified standards.
• Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and welding equipment.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Collaborate with supervisors and other team members to ensure project timelines are met.
• Conduct visual inspections of welded joints and perform basic non‑destructive testing if required.
• Assist with the assembly and installation of fabricated structures as needed.

Requirements

• Relevant Trade Qualification as a Welder or equivalent certification.
• Proven experience (3+ years) in structural and industrial welding and fabrication.
• Proficiency in multiple welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW).
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and welding symbols.
• Strong understanding of metallurgy and the properties of different metals.
• Knowledge of welding safety procedures and practices.
• Physical ability to perform the demands of the job, including standing, bending, and lifting.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Must reside in or be able to reliably commute to Soweto, Gauteng .
• Valid driver's license is an advantage.
