Zepz is seeking a skilled Technical Architect to design scalable backend services bridging FinTech infra with marketing goals. You’ll influence strategic projects and mentor teams across a fast-paced, AI-focused environment.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Product and Marketing, leadership beyond coding, and delivering reliable, user-centric solutions for global customers from our Cape Town base.

What You Bring to the Table

You are a technical architect with a builder’s mindset. You don’t just write code; you engineer solutions that bridge the gap between complex FinTech infrastructure and high-impact Marketing goals.

Your Technical Toolkit

• Backend Skills: You have extensive experience building scalable backend services. You are proficient in Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript.
• The Modern Stack: You’re at home with Spring, Python, NodeJS, and ReactNative.
• Cloud & DevOps: You’re familiar with the "how" of deployment—AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), Terraform, GitHub Actions, and ArgoCD are all part of your repertoire.
• Observability: You use the Grafana LGTM stack to hunt down faults and ensure system health before they become issues.
• AI-Ready: You are comfortable integrating AI tools within a safe, structured development environment to boost velocity.

Your Execution Style

• Quality over Quick-Fixes: You take pride in clean, readable, and well-tested code. You’d rather refactor a design for long-term health than patch a recurring problem.
• Collaborative Leadership: You can translate "marketing-speak" into technical requirements. You enjoy owning large projects, influencing the roadmap, and mentoring peers through code reviews.
• Customer Obsessed: You are a "get it done" person. You value shipping features that improve the user experience over chasing abstract perfection. If a flow doesn't work for the user, you’re happy to scrap the code and try again.

Bonus Points

• You’ve previously worked within a MarTech or Marketing Engineering team.
• You have experience navigating the fast-paced, high-growth environment of a FinTech startup or scale-up.

AI Literacy & Tools

As Zepz continues to build AI into how we work, we expect everyone to engage with it as a core part of their role. For this position we are looking for:

• A genuine curiosity about AI and how it can be applied in your area of work — from accelerating analysis and insight generation, to improving how we design and deliver processes and communications.
• Practical experience using AI tools in a professional context — whether to connect information, draft content, build frameworks, or create insights from data. We want people who actively use AI to increase productivity, not those that are waiting
• Strong AI literacy — an understanding of what AI assistants can and cannot do, how to prompt effectively, and how to critically evaluate AI-generated output before using it.
• Awareness of the ethical considerations and responsible use of AI in the workplace, particularly in the context of sensitive data, customer experience, and compliance.
• Prior experience using Claude (Anthropic) is a nice-to-have but not essential — what matters most is that you are genuinely engaged with AI as a tool, comfortable experimenting, and eager to share what works with your wider team.
