Job summary

Placements24 invites a Water Resources Engineer to join a leading environmental and civil engineering consultancy in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on sustainable management and design of water infrastructure, including water supply networks and flood defenses, with collaboration across regulators and clients.

You will apply hydrology and hydraulics expertise, develop water quality plans, and prepare EIAs while working in a multidisciplinary team to support regional water security

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering with a Water Resources specialization.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in water resources engineering.
• Experience with hydrological and hydraulic modeling software.
• Strong knowledge of water quality, wastewater treatment, and urban drainage design.
• Familiarity with South African water legislation and environmental regulations.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
• Good understanding of Richards Bay and KwaZulu-Natal context.
• Professional registration with ECSA is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hydrological and hydraulic analyses for river systems, urban drainage, and water supply networks.
• Design and oversee development of water infrastructure (dams, pipelines, treatment plants, flood defenses).
• Develop water quality management plans and assess environmental impacts of projects.
• Prepare technical reports, design documents, and EIAs.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, clients, and stakeholders to ensure approvals.
• Utilize hydrological modeling software (HEC-RAS, SWMM) for simulations.
• Provide guidance during construction and operation of water projects.
• Assist in water conservation and drought management planning.
• Conduct site investigations and data collection for water resource assessments.
