Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd requests a Vibration Specialist to take full responsibility for machinery vibration monitoring and diagnostics on power generation equipment. You will work with remote online systems and on-site balancing, contributing to reliability across plants.

The role demands extensive travel nationally, collaboration with engineering teams, and leadership of a team of specialists within Turbo Gen Services. A relevant engineering qualification is required.

Qualifications

  • S4 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with minimum three years related experience.
  • National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with minimum fifteen (8) years related experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide an effective and reliable vibration monitoring and diagnostic service.
  • Carry out technical investigations and provide recommendations.
  • Assist with development and enhancement of vibration specialist skills.
  • Ensure compliance with Safety, Health, Environment and Quality requirements.
  • Maintain strong customer and interdepartmental relationships.
  • Support performance and development of the team.

Position: Vibration Specialist Area of specialization: Take full responsibility in allocated area/plant to provide a professional, specialized machinery vibration monitoring and diagnostic service on power generation related plant, through remote online systems including routine and non-routine vibration analysis, Machinery diagnostics and remote or on site in situ balancing services.Task Grade: T13Type of Vacancy: Internal and ExternalDepartment: EngineeringBusiness Unit: Turbo Gen ServicesLocation: RoshervilleNo of Position X4

Skills
  • Skills in condition monitoring methods, hardware and software related to turbo generator plant and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Skill in multi plane balancing of Large Turbo Generator sets
  • Ability to conduct technical investigations, compile technical reports and make technical recommendations
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High level of computer Literacy in MS Word, Ms Excel, MS Power Point, and relevant vibration monitoring hardware and software
  • Effective English communication skills and able to communicate at all levels in organization
Knowledge
  • Above average knowledge of condition monitoring techniques methods hardware and software related to turbo generator and associated auxiliary plant
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and relevant ISO Standards
  • Knowledge of the OHSA, Construction regulations and Environmental Regulations

SHEQ Responsibilities
  • Continuous improvement: Ensure that your administration document is current and include your SHEQ objectives. Ensure that all legal appointments are valid and in place for your area of control.
  • SHEQ Compliance: As a Section 8 & 9 appointee, you are to ensure that the duties of the employer as contemplated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 are properly discharged and all legal appointments are valid and in place for your area control.
  • Reduce work: Measure and report on Rework vs. Revenue for your department monthly and ensure you reduce rework to less than 0.5% of your turnover.
  • ISO and OHSAS Certification: Ensure that all activities are carried out.
  • Audit Rating: Maintain an audit score of less than 2 and/or receive no major audit findings.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide an effective and reliable specialised machinery vibration monitoring and diagnostic service.
  • Provide specialised, technical investigation and technology improvement services.
  • Assist with the development and enhancement of vibration specialist skills.

Qualification(s)
  • S4 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with minimum Three(3) Years related experience

  • National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with minimum fifteen (8) Years related experience
Experience
  • Related experience in the vibration monitoring of Turbo Generator and associated auxiliary plant, specifically related to the aspect of vibration monitoring and diagnostics, including
  • On-Line Systems (DM2000 and System 1 EVO, PiBook and Alstom EPRO)
  • Velocity and Displacement probe Locations
  • Orientations on the units, vibration protection capabilities I.e. interfacing with DCS, alarms and trip settings.
  • Vibration Monitoring and analysis, multi shaft balancing, Tribology, Thermography, Laser Alignment and ultrasound vibration Testing
  • Experience of quality management systems and relevant ISO standards
  • Experience of the OHSA, construction Regulations and Environmental Regulation
