Brief Description
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and drive the Utilities and Energy plans for the University of the Witwatersrand.
- Provide regular reporting to the management.
- Manage service providers to ensure high quality workmanship is provided.
- Develop and roll out a comprehensive energy management strategy that shapes and guides our energy and utilities landscape.
- Set and align annual and long-term goals for energy efficiency and sustainability aligned with the university’s overall objectives.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Administer and manage designated portfolio professionally and effectively manage and control general utilities in designated portfolio (water, electricity, diesel & gas).
- Responsible for utilities and energy management solution that leverages best practices; and ensures accurate billing by municipalities.
- Drive cost savings, efficient resource usage, carbon footprint reduction and compliance.
- Utility account analysis
- Verification and optimization of utilities consumption
- Utilities assessments
- Utilities business case development
- Turnkey energy and water project delivery
- Measurement and verification of energy, diesel, gas and water savings
- Remote metering
- Managing, monitoring, and reporting on utilities including Solar PV plants
- Compiles monthly management reports within the designated section
Occupational Health & Safety and Property Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with SHEQ regulatory requirements and standards in area of responsibility, including compliance by outsourced contractors/service providers.
- Implement corrective action where deviations occur for the University of the Witwatersrand.
- Identify risks and implement and drive mitigation plans for the University of the Witwatersrand.
Management Responsibilities

Required Academic Qualification/s
- National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 6 or 7)
- Minimum 5 years' confirmed experience in electrical engineering, utilities management and project management.
- Good communication and management skills
- Ability to take clear decisions in different and difficult situations and a high degree of innovation.
- Experience in contract (management & good negotiation skills) and in business reporting.
- Integrated Work Systems/Continuous Improvement working knowledge
- Valid Driver’s License
