Job summary

Placements24, in partnership with a leading mining company, seeks a Mine Ventilation Engineer to optimise underground ventilation near Stellenbosch, Western Cape. You will design and implement ventilation systems, monitor airflow and gas levels, and ensure regulatory compliance to safeguard personnel and operations.

The role requires a solid background in ventilation theory, 5+ years in mining ventilation, and experience with VENTSIM or similar tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering with a specialization in Ventilation.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mine ventilation engineering, preferably underground mining.
• Proficiency in mine ventilation modeling software (VENTSIM or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and heat transfer as applied to mining.
• Experience with dust suppression and control strategies.
• Familiarity with South African MHSA ventilation regulations.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong report-writing and communication abilities.
• Willingness to travel to mine sites near Stellenbosch, Western Cape.

Responsibilities

• Design, evaluate, and optimize mine ventilation systems including fans, ducting and auxiliary ventilation.
• Conduct ventilation surveys, airflow measurements, and gas monitoring.
• Model ventilation networks using specialized software (VENTSIM).
• Analyze thermal conditions and develop heat management strategies.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and ventilation regulations.
• Collaborate with geotechnical and safety engineers to integrate ventilation plans with mine design and safety.
• Troubleshoot ventilation issues and propose solutions.
• Prepare technical reports, plans and specifications related to mine ventilation.
• Provide training and guidance to ventilation technicians and site personnel.
• Stay updated on advancements in mine ventilation technology and best practices.
