Applicants should be in their final year of study or have graduated within one year of starting the internship. Candidates should be completing or have recently completed an: Honours Degree or Masters Degree in a STEM field, Finance or Economics. A strong academic record is required.
UBS is looking for candidates who demonstrate strong analytical and numerical abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills and a genuine interest in financial markets and client-facing work. Applicants should also show a proactive attitude, willingness to learn, teamwork ability, relationship-building skills and a commercial, client-focused mindset. Knowledge of South African financial markets will be advantageous. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate how the responsible and experimental use of artificial intelligence can improve efficiency and outcomes.
The programme provides structured training covering market fundamentals, financial products and client relationship skills. Interns will receive practical on-the-job learning and will be assigned mentors to support their professional development. Regular feedback sessions will help participants track their progress during the programme. Strong performers may be considered for the UBS Graduate Talent Program after the internship.
Interns will shadow experienced sales and trading professionals and learn how they advise clients on market developments, investment opportunities and execution strategies. They will also support the preparation of client presentations and market updates, analyse financial-market data and assist with translating information into useful client insights. Participants may contribute to developing investment solutions and work with trading desks, product specialists and operations teams. The internship also provides exposure to clients such as asset managers, hedge funds, pension funds and corporate clients.
