Responsibilities
Managing operational staff by:
- Recruiting, selecting, orientating and training staff
- Maintaining a safe and secure working environment
- Ensuring legislative compliance in terms of Basic Conditions of Employment, Labour Relations, Employment Equity, Skills Development and safety, welfare and health
- Communicating job expectations and managing performance
- Coaching, counseling, disciplining and handling grievances
- Administering staff matters includes preparing and authorizing overtime schedules, preparing staff leave schedules, absenteeism and other HR Management / document requirements
Maintaining Operations Service And Quality Standards By
- Monitoring freight departures, collections, deliveries and arrivals
- Ensuring timeous departure of all route vehicles
- Verifying freight handling and the application of collection and dispatch procedures
- Verifying data capturing procedures and processes
- Taking corrective action in terms of problems identified
- Monitoring and ensuring: on time delivery, actioning missed collections, data capturing errors are identified and corrected, productivity levels (collections, deliveries) by route / driver / collections clerk are maximized, effective POD capturing
- Planning routes and monitoring kilometres of route vehicles
- Preparing required operational reports in Excel
- Administering / monitoring fuel consumption, vehicle service and mileage records, traffic violation fines, cargo and accident claims, freight discrepancies, etc.
- Handling customer queries / requirements by investigating, proposing solutions and taking corrective action
- Maintaining operational assets, including scanners, and ensuring vehicles are properly maintained
- Checking vehicle presentation, analyzing vehicle abuse and driver behavior & taking corrective action
- Ensuring warehouse housekeeping is maintained
- Reviewing operations performance via Freightware and management reports in terms of damages, claims, productivity, PODS processed, load times, customer complaints, delivery problems, special requirements etc.
- Ensuring compliance with all HR policies, practices and administrative procedures
- Advising warehouse staff of loading instructions
- Sorting waybills into delivery routes
- Monitoring correct handling of cargo
- Constant monitoring of vehicle loading and floor activity as and when required
- Administering and recording retention of operational documentation
- Ensuring that all operational information is communicated efficiently
Requirements
Qualification
- Grade 12 Matric certificate
- Preferred B.Com Degree or Diploma in Logistics or Transport
Experience
- 3/5 Years transport or freight operational experience.
- 3 Years experience in supervisory capacity
Knowledge
- Knowledge of road transportation in SA
- Basic knowledge on Managerial / people management principles
- Basic understanding of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Legislation (BCOE Act)
- In depth understanding of freight operational processes Geographic understanding of area of operation and a detailed understanding of Transport ordinances and loading requirements
- In depth understanding of freight processes, including Freightware and similar management systems
