Job summary

Shift Pursuit is recruiting a Trauma Qualified Unit Manager for a leading private hospital in Gauteng. You will lead the Trauma and Emergency Unit, drive clinical excellence, manage staffing, and ensure patient-centred care in a high-pressure environment.

Requirements include a Diploma/Degree in General Nursing, Diploma in Trauma and Emergency Nursing Science, SANC registration as General Nurse, and 3–5 years in trauma/ED with unit leadership experience. BLS/ACLS/ATLS are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in General Nursing.
• Diploma in Trauma and Emergency Nursing Science – essential.
• Diploma/Degree in Nursing Education, Nursing Administration and/or Nursing Management.
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a General Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and coordinate daily operations of the Trauma and Emergency Unit.
• Ensure evidence-based nursing care per hospital policies and best-practice standards.
• Supervise, mentor, and support nursing staff and foster a high-performing team.
• Manage staffing, rosters, leave planning, and resource allocation.
• Monitor clinical standards and drive quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure infection control, patient safety, and QA compliance.
• Collaborate with doctors and multidisciplinary teams for patient care.
• Oversee stock control, equipment, procurement, and resources.
• Manage admissions, transfers, discharges, and emergencies within the unit.
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure accurate clinical documentation and legal/ethical compliance.
• Drive staff development through coaching and CPD.
• Participate in committees and accreditation processes.
• Promote patient- and family-centred care; provide clinical leadership.
