Job Purpose

Design and optimise transport solutions through the effective application of transport planning, modelling and TMS technology. The role translates operational requirements into practical system configurations and transport solutions that improve cost, utilisation and service performance. The role is further intended to provide specialist transport expertise across client engagements, from solution design and implementation through to continuous optimisation.

Role Context and Business Need

The role strengthens the business's transport planning, optimisation and TMS capability by combining practical transport knowledge with technology, analytics and commercial understanding. There is an expectation to understand how transport operations work, configure and apply the appropriate tools, critically evaluate modelling outputs and develop practical solutions that improve operational and financial performance across client environments.

Job Performance Criteria

Transport Planning, Modelling and Optimisation

• Analyse transport networks, routes, demand, fleet capacity and operational constraints to identify optimisation opportunities.
• Develop and run transport planning and optimisation models to evaluate alternative operating scenarios.
• Optimise routing, scheduling, vehicle utilisation, load consolidation, kilometres and fleet requirements.
• Critically review model outputs to determine whether recommendations are operationally practical and commercially appropriate.
• Adjust assumptions, constraints and planning parameters where modelling outputs do not reflect operational reality.

TMS Solution Design and Configuration

• Translate business and transport requirements into appropriate TMS solution designs and system configurations.
• Configure relevant planning parameters, routes, vehicles, capacities, depots, customers, service requirements and operational constraints.
• Evaluate how system configuration impacts planning outcomes and operational execution.
• Test and validate system changes against business requirements and real-world transport conditions.
• Work with technical and integration teams to resolve system limitations, data issues and configuration gaps.
• Define and maintain transport master data standards and validate data readiness ahead of go-live.

Transport Operations and Performance Improvement

• Assess actual transport execution against planned and optimised transport outcomes.
• Identify operational inefficiencies relating to routing, scheduling, fleet utilisation, capacity, kilometres and service performance.
• Work with client and operational teams to understand the root causes of performance gaps.
• Develop and implement corrective and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Monitor operational performance following implementation against agreed baselines and targets, and refine the solution where required.
• Report on realised versus forecast savings, utilisation and service improvements at agreed intervals.

Transport Analytics, Commercial and Financial Optimisation

• Analyse transport costs, fleet utilisation, route performance and other operational KPIs to identify improvement opportunities.
• Develop transport cost models and evaluate the financial impact of alternative operating scenarios.
• Assess the commercial implications of fleet size, routing, kilometres, utilisation, resources and proposed transport solutions.
• Support budgeting, business cases, proposals and commercial solution design with appropriate operational assumptions.
• Quantify the financial and operational benefits of proposed and implemented optimisation initiatives.

Client Solutions, Advisory and Continuous Improvement

• Engage with clients to understand transport challenges, operating requirements and improvement priorities.
• Design practical transport and TMS solutions that balance operational requirements, technology capability and commercial viability.
• Present transport analysis, modelling outcomes and recommendations to client and internal stakeholders.
• Support solution implementation and ensure that proposed improvements translate into operational results.
• Build internal transport optimisation capability by sharing knowledge, methodologies and effective use of TMS and modelling tools.

Qualifications and experience requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transport Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Information Systems or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years’ relevant experience in transport planning, optimisation, TMS, supply chain solutions or transport operations.
• Demonstrated experience in transport planning, modelling and optimisation. Practical experience in TMS configuration, solution design and implementation.
• Strong analytical capability, including the ability to interpret transport data and challenge system or modelling outputs.
• Sound commercial understanding of transport costs, budgets and operational performance.

Advantageous

• Experience in supply chain consulting or transport solution design.
• Experience implementing TMS or optimisation solutions across multiple clients or sites.
• Exposure to Control Tower, transport visibility or optimisation platforms.
