Job summary

Recruitify_HR is seeking a Transport Controller in Durban to plan daily inter-depot movements, source transporters, and track shipments from pickup to delivery. You will coordinate transport activities, optimize routes, monitor costs, and maintain transporter performance to meet service levels.

The role requires strong planning, excellent communication, and the ability to work under pressure. After-hours availability may be required to ensure timely completions and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Matric / Grade 12.
• Degree/Diploma in Transport, Logistics or Warehousing, or studying towards a relevant qualification.
• Previous experience in transport, logistics, warehousing or distribution is advantageous.
• Computer literate with ability to use operational systems.
• Strong planning, organising and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to analyse information.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to assist after hours when required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and create daily inter-depot movement loads across facilities.
• Source and coordinate suitable transporters for planned loads.
• Conduct track and trace on vehicles from collection to delivery facility.
• Coordinate day-to-day transport activities and resolve transport-related queries.
• Conduct route planning to optimise vehicle utilisation and transport costs.
• Monitor vehicle costs against utilisation and maintain daily transport costing information.
• Manage transporter performance and ensure service expectations are met.
• Source competitive rates for secondary transport requirements.
• Capture and maintain IDM requests and transport information.
• Report and administer IDM damages.
• Check supplier and transporter invoices and submit for approval.
• Monitor stock movements to ensure loads are dispatched correctly and receipted at delivery point.
• Maintain professional communication with transporters, operations and stakeholders.
• Ensure transport-related emails and mailboxes are kept up to date.
• Be available after hours to ensure vehicles and loads are completed.

TRANSPORT CONTROLLER

Location: Umbilo, Durban

Salary: R15,000 per month – negotiable based on skills and experience

• Plan and create daily inter-depot movement (IDM) loads across facilities.
• Source and coordinate suitable transporters for planned loads.
• Conduct track and trace on vehicles from collection/loading through to the delivery facility.
• Coordinate day-to-day transport activities and resolve transport-related queries.
• Conduct route planning to optimise vehicle utilisation and transport costs.
• Monitor vehicle costs against utilisation and maintain daily transport costing information.
• Manage transporter performance and ensure agreed service expectations are met.
• Source competitive rates for secondary transport requirements.

Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12.
• A Degree/Diploma in Transport, Logistics or Warehousing, or studies towards a relevant qualification, would be advantageous.
• Previous experience within a transport, logistics, - warehousing or distribution environment would be advantageous.
• Computer literate with the ability to work confidently on operational systems.
• Strong planning, organising and problem-solving skills.
