Job summary

Boardroom Appointments in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape seeks an experienced maintenance technician to provide operational support, repair, maintenance and improvement to production tooling, jigs, moulds and fixtures.

The role involves routine inspections, diagnosing equipment failures, coordinating with production for preventative maintenance, and ensuring equipment operates within required tolerances; shift work is required and OHSA guidelines apply.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in manufacturing industry.
• Multiskilling across disciplines advantageous.
• Hydraulics/Pneumatics basics advantageous.
• Knowledge of automated production equipment advantageous.
• Able to work to fine tolerances.
• Knowledge of OHSA act.
• Excellent team orientation and planning.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational support and responsible for repair, maintenance and improvement to all production tooling, jigs, moulds and fixtures.
• Perform routine inspections/early diagnosis of possible equipment failures and excessive wear.
• Communicate with supervisors/production to arrange preventative maintenance time.
• Arrange parts to be available to carry out preventative maintenance routines.
• Diagnose root cause of equipment failure and plan actions to remove causes.
• Repair failures to a like-new condition as quickly as possible.
• Report on action taken and record downtime.
• Ensure equipment operates correctly after actions and obtain manufacturing process approval.
• Be available at all times to assist with production requests.
• Assist production in resolving process-related problems; train operators when required.
• Communicate planning changes to production runs timeously.
• Identify and report production problems not yet apparent and advise accordingly.
• Perform first-off inspection on all process changes.
• Periodically inspect products against quality requirements.
• Inspect SPC charts to evaluate equipment capability and correct where necessary.
• Plot engineering-related SPC charts and monitor equipment performance.
• Report in writing on out-of-control conditions to superior.
• Daily maintenance reporting; record outstanding actions and spares requirements.
• Hand over instructions and information; report any equipment abuse and advise on preventative maintenance.

Job description

• Knowledge of Multi skilling across disciplines, Hydraulics/Pneumatics basics and automated process control will be a distinct advantage.
• Knowledge of automated production equipment and lead injection moulding advantageous.
• Must be able to work to fine tolerances
• Knowledge of OHSA act.
• Excellent team orientation, planning, communication skills
• Working shifts is a prerequisite.

• Plot engineering related statistical process charts and use of barometer of equipment performance.
• Report in writing on out of control conditions to superior.
• Daily maintenance reporting requirements
