Tooling Maintenance Technician job vacancy in Bellville.

A well-established Manufacturing Engineering company is looking for an experienced Tooling Maintenance Technician to join their team on a full-time permanent basis in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town.

Must be willing and able to travel between South Africa and China on a rotational basis, approximately 4 weeks in South Africa followed by 4 weeks in China.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the setup, servicing, maintenance and quality of tooling and related production machinery, ensuring equipment operates efficiently and according to required specifications.

Position Requirements

• Minimum Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
• Trade Tested Toolmaker and/or Mechanical Fitter & Turner
• Minimum 2–3 years’ practical experience as a Toolmaker, Toolsetter and/or Maintenance Technician
• Sound technical ability and a strong understanding of mechanical machinery
• Good mathematical and calculation skills
• Good communication skills
• Willingness to work shifts according to the applicable shift roster
• Must be reliable, accurate and administratively orientated
• Must be physically fit and able to work in a manufacturing environment
• Must be willing to learn, take initiative and follow instructions from management and/or a superior
• Forklift licence will be advantageous
• Additional technical, maintenance or leadership qualifications/certificates will be advantageous
• Must be willing and able to travel between South Africa and China on a rotational basis, approximately 4 weeks in South Africa followed by 4 weeks in China
• A valid passport is essential and the successful candidate must be able to travel internationally when required

Position Responsibilities

• Tooling:
  • Maintain a high standard of tool quality according to required specifications
  • Assist with the setup and preparation of tools in the tool room
  • Ensure tools are set and prepared according to specification
  • Carry out the setting and servicing of production tools
  • Perform maintenance and quality control relating to tooling and associated machine issues
  • Ensure all tooling parts and components are correctly tightened and set according to specification
  • Ensure the correct setup of tools in the press prior to production
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure samples and finished chain meet required specifications
  • Check knuckles, client specifications, IDs, swaai, cracks and burrs, as well as chain nose and tail
  • Support press operators in resolving production interruptions and tooling-related issues
  • Replace IDs and client punches on press tools when required
  • Conduct fault-finding on presses, coilers and de-coiler systems across production machinery
  • Continuously monitor product quality according to required specifications and make the necessary adjustments to tooling and presses
  • Ensure all tool fittings, including clamps, T-bolts, washers and nuts, are correctly used and secured on presses
• Maintenance:
  • Responsible for the overall maintenance, servicing, efficiency and effectiveness of assigned machinery
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on machinery and related equipment
  • Assist with identifying and resolving mechanical and tooling-related faults
  • Ensure machinery is maintained in an effective operating condition
  • Assist in improving the overall operation and efficiency of machinery and equipment
  • Identify opportunities to optimise machinery performance and minimise production interruptions
  • Provide technical support when required to ensure production continuity
  • Follow all applicable maintenance, safety, quality and operational procedures
• General:
  • Follow any reasonable instructions/requests from management and/or a superior at all times
  • Maintain a professional and safety-conscious approach within the manufacturing environment
  • Ensure all work is completed accurately and in accordance with required quality standards
  • Work effectively as part of a team while also being able to work independently when required
  • Be flexible regarding working hours, shift requirements and international rotational travel
