Role Description

The TLB Operator will be responsible for safely operating a Tractor-Loader-Backhoe (TLB) to support construction and engineering activities on-site. Day-to-day tasks include excavating, loading, backfilling, trenching, and general earthmoving, as well as assisting with site preparation and cleanup as required. The role involves conducting daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance checks, and reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns. The TLB Operator will work closely with site supervisors and team members to follow work instructions, meet project timelines, and comply with all safety, environmental, and quality standards. This is a contract, on-site role based in Evander.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating a TLB or similar heavy earthmoving equipment in construction, civil works, or mining environments.
• Valid operator certificate/license for TLB or relevant earthmoving machinery, with up-to-date competency and safety training.
• Strong understanding of site safety procedures, hazard identification, and safe work practices, including adherence to PPE and environmental guidelines.
• Ability to read and follow instructions from supervisors, basic site drawings, and work plans, with attention to accuracy and efficiency.
• Basic mechanical awareness to perform pre-start inspections, routine checks, and record faults promptly.
• Reliable work ethic, punctuality, and ability to work effectively in a team, including coordination with engineers, technicians, and other operators.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions and to adapt to changing site requirements and schedules.
• Prior experience on projects involving utilities, municipal works, or infrastructure development in or around Evander is an advantage.
• Grade 12 or equivalent education is beneficial, along with any additional training in construction or heavy equipment operation.
