Job summary

Samancor is seeking a TFC Production Operator Tapper at Steelpoort, ZA to support furnace tapping and related material handling. You will prepare the tap floor, operate the overhead crane, and ensure safe, compliant tapping of molten product.

You will sample materials and document in MES and tapping logs, with training aligned to the plant's standards. The role requires adaptability to shift work and overtime, with emphasis on safety, teamwork, and meeting production targets in a heavy industry

Qualifications

• Training as per training matrix is required.
• Demonstrate understanding of furnace and plant environments.
• Flexible to overtime and shift work.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tap floor and auxiliaries for tapping molten material.
• Tap the furnace to recover molten product.
• Open the taphole using a taphole drill and lancing.
• Maintain the taphole with the drill rod and close it with mud gun or manually.
• Prepare slag skimming area and manage metal casting surfaces.
• Cast inspection floor and unblocking of chute.
• Handle loads using an overhead crane and direct crane operations.
• Prepare metal casting and slag runners; sample molten metal and slag for lab analysis.
• Submit samples to Laboratory with ticket; update tapping log and MES entries.
• Perform ad hoc tasks as required.

BUSINESS PROCESSES

Tapping:

• Prepare the tap floor and auxiliaries for tapping molten material.
• Tap the furnace to recover the smelted product.
• Open the taphole by means of a taphole drill and lancing.
• Maintain the taphole with the drill rod.
• Close the taphole by means of a mud gun or manually.
• Prepare slag skimming area.
• Casting inspection floor
• Unblock chute
• Sling equipment
• Direct the operation of an overhead crane
• Handle a load by means of an overhead crane
• Prepare metal casting and slag runners
• Take metal and slag samples
• Submission of samples to Laboratory with sample ticket
• Update the tapping log sheets and the MES system
• Ad hoc tasks to be performed as per requirement
