TECHNICAL MANAGER

- Automotive Manufacturing/Component experience.
- 5–10 years’ Technical / Workshop Management experience.
- Mining, Automotive and OEM experience essential.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Technical Manager will oversee technical and workshop operations, ensuring that production processes, technical standards, tooling, and resources support efficient, quality-driven output. The role will also drive process improvements and ensure compliance with operational and quality requirements.
Minimum requirements
- Matric / Grade 12.
- Relevant Diploma/Degree in Production Management,
- Operations Management or Project Management.
- 5–10 years’ experience in Technical/Workshop
- Management.
- Automotive Manufacturing or Automotive Component experience.
- Strong technical and mechanical product knowledge.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with time studies and line balancing.
- Knowledge of Lean and business improvement would be advantageous.
- Exposure to managing Lean and Six Sigma projects would be advantageous.
- Strong organisational, time management and people management skills.

Duties and responsibilities
- Oversee technical and workshop operations and ensure customer and quality requirements are achieved.
- Structure operations to meet production schedules and maximise output.
- Implement new products and processes and assist with technical project development.
- Analyse equipment, capacity and manpower requirements to support operational needs.
- Ensure appropriate tooling is available, calibrated and maintained.
- Manage and improve existing technical and production processes.
- Monitor production activities, workflow and technical issues and implement corrective action.
- Develop and monitor production documentation, work instructions and quality documentation.
- Lead and manage technical and production staff, including training, performance management and skills development.
- Drive multi-skilling and maintain employee skills matrices.
- Support continuous improvement, Lean initiatives and waste reduction.
- Ensure adherence to 5S and smooth-flow activities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, quality standards and relevant ISO requirements.
- Ensure safety protocols and regulatory requirements are maintained.
- Investigate technical and production problems and elevate issues where required.
- Ensure fitments and technical work are completed according to approved work and fitment instructions.
- Prepare weekly and monthly operational reports and forecasts.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, HR, Finance and other departments to achieve operational objectives.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and sub-contractors where required.
- Identify opportunities to improve technical processes, productivity and operational efficiency.
