Job summary

Inhancesc is seeking a senior Fleet Management Specialist to lead technical fleet analysis across client operations. You will improve fleet reliability, utilisation and cost efficiency through vehicle selection, maintenance, fuel and tyre management, and by translating fleet data into practical improvement recommendations.

The role focuses on analysing fleet performance, advising on optimal asset use, and implementing cost-control strategies across diverse fleets within the Supply Chain

Job Purpose

To provide specialist technical fleet management expertise across the business and client operations. The role is responsible for improving fleet reliability, utilisation and cost efficiency through effective vehicle selection, maintenance, fuel and tyre management. The role is intended to analyse fleet performance and provide practical recommendations that support operational and commercial improvement.

Role Context and Business Need

The role is required to strengthen the business’s specialist fleet management capability by improving fleet reliability, utilisation and cost efficiency across client operations. The incumbent will provide practical technical expertise in vehicle selection, maintenance, fuel, tyres and fleet operating costs, while using fleet data to identify risks, reduce cost leakage and advise clients on appropriate fleet solutions and improvement opportunities.

Job Performance Criteria

Fleet Technical Management and Asset Reliability

• Develop and oversee preventive and planned maintenance strategies for trucks, commercial vehicles, cars, forklifts and other fleet assets.
• Review maintenance schedules against manufacturer recommendations, operating conditions, vehicle age and actual fleet performance.
• Analyse vehicle breakdowns, repeat failures and excessive repair costs and identify underlying causes.
• Assess workshops, maintenance providers and repair practices to ensure appropriate maintenance standards and cost control.
• Monitor fleet availability, downtime and reliability and recommend corrective interventions.

Fleet Specification and Vehicle Selection

• Assess operational requirements and recommend the appropriate vehicle, truck and body type for each use case.
• Evaluate payload, route characteristics, operating environment, utilisation, horsepower and vehicle configuration when recommending assets.
• Advise on vehicle replacement, refurbishment and fleet renewal decisions.
• Evaluate vehicle options based on operational suitability and whole-life cost rather than purchase price alone.
• Provide technical input into fleet procurement and client fleet strategy.

Fuel and Tyre Management

• Develop and evaluate fuel management controls, processes and systems.
• Monitor fuel consumption by vehicle, route, driver and operating environment and investigate material variances.
• Identify potential fuel losses, misuse or theft and recommend appropriate preventative controls.
• Develop tyre management practices covering fitment, pressure, rotation, wear, replacement, casing management and cost.
• Analyse fuel and tyre cost trends and identify opportunities to improve cost per kilometre and asset life.

Fleet Cost and Performance Optimisation

• Analyse fleet operating costs including fuel, tyres, maintenance, repairs and asset utilisation.
• Determine and monitor relevant measures such as cost per kilometre, fuel consumption, maintenance cost per vehicle and vehicle availability.
• Identify underperforming vehicles, assets or operating practices and recommend corrective action.
• Assess repair-versus-replace decisions using operational and financial information.
• Provide recommendations to improve fleet productivity, utilisation and total cost of ownership.
• Manage service provider performance against agreed service levels, rates and turnaround times.
• Provide technical input into supplier selection, rate negotiations and contract reviews for maintenance, tyre and fuel services.
• Prepare and present periodic fleet performance and cost reporting to management and clients.

Fleet Advisory and Continuous Improvement

• Conduct fleet assessments across client environments and identify technical and operational improvement opportunities.
• Translate fleet data into practical recommendations for management and clients.
• Advise clients on fleet management practices, systems, vehicle selection and operating standards.
• Evaluate fleet technologies and specialist systems including maintenance, fuel and tyre management solutions.
• Monitor implemented interventions and quantify operational and financial improvements achieved.

Compliance, Safety and Risk

• Ensure fleet compliance with road transport legislation, roadworthiness, licensing and permit requirements.
• Monitor accident and incident trends, oversee damage assessment and repair authorisation, and support insurance claims.
• Ensure maintenance and workshop activities meet applicable health, safety and environmental standards.
• Maintain fleet records, licence renewals and statutory documentation.
• Identify fleet-related operational and compliance risks and recommend mitigating controls.

• Fleet availability and uptime percentage.

Qualifications and experience requirements

• Relevant qualifications in Transport, Logistics, Fleet Management, or a related discipline.
• Practical experience in fleet management and commercial vehicle operations.
• Approximately 10–15 years' relevant fleet experience, with preference for candidates who have managed operational truck fleets directly.
• Valid driver's licence (Code C1/EB or higher advantageous).
• Willingness to travel to client operations and sites as required.
