Job summary

Joint Medical Holdings Group is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to support hospital infrastructure and service delivery at our Durban facilities. The role covers routine inspections, preventative and reactive maintenance, and on-site contractor coordination.

The ideal candidate has an N6 qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering and at least 1 year in a healthcare facilities setting, with basic knowledge of hospital engineering systems.

Qualifications

• Matric and N6 Engineering qualification essential.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a healthcare facilities environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections of plant rooms and hospital technical infrastructure.
• Assist with preventative and reactive maintenance, including breakdown response.
• Monitor and support generators, UPS systems, HVAC, pumps, water systems, medical gases, lifts, and related equipment.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards, and service reports.
• Assist with asset management, inventory control, and equipment tracking.
• Coordinate and monitor contractors working on site.
• Follow up on outstanding maintenance work and verify completed repairs.
• Assist with minor projects, installations, and renovations.
• Provide technical support to theatres, ICU, wards, emergency units, and other critical hospital areas.
• Ensure compliance with hospital health, safety, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To provide technical, maintenance, and administrative support by ensuring that equipment, systems, and assets are effectively maintained, monitored, and managed to support efficient departmental operations and service delivery.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Conduct routine inspections of plant rooms and hospital technical infrastructure.
• Assist with preventative and reactive maintenance, including breakdown response.
• Monitor and support generators, UPS systems, HVAC, pumps, water systems, medical gases, lifts, and related equipment.
• Perform basic fault finding and escalate complex technical issues where required.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards, and service reports.
• Assist with asset management, inventory control, and equipment tracking.
• Coordinate and monitor contractors working on site.
• Follow up on outstanding maintenance work and verify completed repairs.
• Assist with minor projects, installations, and renovations.
• Provide technical support to theatres, ICU, wards, emergency units, and other critical hospital areas.
• Ensure compliance with hospital health, safety, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
• N6 Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification (essential).
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare facilities environment.
• Basic knowledge of hospital engineering systems and maintenance practices will be advantageous.
