Job summary

Hexagon is seeking a Technical Application Engineer for Sub-Saharan Africa to provide pre-sales and technical guidance across SSA. You will demonstrate Hexagon Production Software, map customer needs to solutions, and act as a trusted advisor to customers, prospects, and institutions while supporting sales throughout the journey.

The role requires strong technical knowledge, customer engagement, and manufacturing expertise to accelerate software adoption and revenue growth in SSA.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in application engineering, pre-sales, technical consulting, or manufacturing engineering.
• Experience with CAD/CAM, CNC programming, machining, simulation, or production machining software solutions.
• Experience supporting software sales within industrial, engineering, or manufacturing environments.
• Fluency in English, written and spoken; Afrikaans is advantageous.
• Willingness to travel regularly across the assigned territory.
• Customer-facing experience in a technical sales, application engineering, or consulting environment is preferred.

• Pre-Sales & Technical Support: Support the sales team in identifying, qualifying, and advancing new business opportunities.
• Deliver technical presentations, software demonstrations, proofs of concept, and customer workshops.

Summary

The Technical Application Engineer – Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) will be responsible for providing pre-salesand technical expertise to support business growth across the region.

Working closely with the Sales Manager, the role focuses on demonstrating Hexagon ProductionSoftware solutions, understanding customer manufacturing challenges, delivering technical consultations, and helping customers realize value from digital manufacturing technologies.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, prospects, academicinstitutions, and industry stakeholders while supporting sales activities throughout the customer journey. The role requires a strong combination of technical knowledge, customer engagement skills, andmanufacturing expertise to accelerate software adoption and revenue growth across SSA.

Job Responsibilities

• Pre-Sales & Technical Support
  • Support the sales team in identifying, qualifying, and advancing new business opportunities.
  • Deliver technical presentations, software demonstrations, proofs of concept, and customer workshops.
  • Understand customer manufacturing processes and map Hexagon solutions to customer requirements.
  • Respond to technical inquiries, RFIs, RFPs, and customer evaluations.
  • Assist in developing solution proposals and technical recommendations.
• Customer Engagement & Solution Consulting
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers throughout the sales cycle.
  • Conduct discovery sessions to understand customer workflows, challenges, and business objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance on best practices and implementation approaches.
  • Support customers in evaluating and selecting the most appropriate Hexagon solutions.
  • Build strong relationships with engineering, manufacturing, production, and quality stakeholders.
• Industry & Technical Expertise
  • Maintain deep knowledge of Hexagon's Production Software portfolio and associated technologies.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, CAD/CAM developments, CNC machining, digital manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
  • Provide competitive insights and market feedback to regional leadership.
  • Support the development of technical content, case studies, and customer success stories.
• Academia & Skills Development
  • Conduct guest lectures, workshops, and technical demonstrations to promote Hexagon technologies.
  • Support educational programs that increase awareness and adoption of digital manufacturing solutions.
  • Assist institutions in integrating Hexagon software into engineering and manufacturing curricula.
• Customer Success & Technical Enablement
  • Support customer onboarding activities and ensure successful solution adoption.
  • Work with implementation, training, and support teams to facilitate smooth customer transitions.
  • Assist customers in maximizing the value of their software investment.
  • Identify opportunities for additional software modules, upgrades, and future solution expansion.
• Internal Collaboration
  • Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Product Specialists, Customer Success, and Support teams.
  • Provide technical input into regional business plans and strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of technical engagements and opportunities within CRM systems.
  • Support forecasting activities by providing technical qualification and opportunity assessments.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in application engineering, pre-sales, technical consulting, or manufacturing engineering.
• Experience with CAD/CAM, CNC programming, machining, simulation, or production machining software solutions.
• Experience supporting software sales within industrial, engineering, or manufacturing environments.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production workflows.
• FluencyinEnglish,writtenandspoken,isrequired.ProficiencyinAfrikaansisadvantageous.
• Willingnesstotravelregularlyacrosstheassignedterritory.
• Customer-facing experience in a technical sales, application engineering, or consulting environment is preferred.

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) - Experience in one or more of the following:

• Manufacturing process optimization
• Simulation and digital manufacturing
• Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing technologies
