Job summary

Glasshouse Recruiting seeks a Theatre Assistant to support surgical teams across hospital sites in the Western Cape. You will manage theatre logistics, documentation, and stock, ensuring seamless case flow and accurate records.

In this role you will liaise with surgeons, nurses, and supply staff, participate in on-call shifts, and travel between sites with a valid driver’s licence. English fluency and meticulous organisation are essential.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in clinical, medical, science, business, or related field.
• 1–3 years of healthcare, medical device, clinical, or sales-support experience.
• Knowledge of medical devices and surgical environments (advantageous).
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Professional and capable of working in high-pressure theatre environments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with clinical staff.
• Strong documentation and administrative accuracy.
• Tech-savvy with ability to complete digital and physical documentation.
• Fluent in English; valid driver’s licence; willingness to travel and flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Attend scheduled surgical procedures to support theatre cases alongside the sales team.
• Ensure all required surgical sets, implants, and instruments are prepared, complete, and available prior to each case.
• Provide real-time logistical support in theatre to ensure efficient case flow.
• Participate in a rotational after-hours and weekend on-call schedule based on surgical requirements.
• Develop and maintain strong working knowledge of the company’s product portfolio.
• Professionally demonstrate product value and support clinical discussions with surgeons and theatre staff.
• Identify potential upselling or additional product opportunities during theatre interactions and communicate these to the sales team.
• Accurately complete delivery notes and all associated documentation for consignment and loan sets.
• Ensure full compliance with hospital protocols and internal company documentation procedures.
• Maintain accurate records to support traceability and audit requirements.
• Assist with the transport, delivery, and return of surgical sets between company premises and hospital sites.
• Perform monthly consignment stock checks in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Report discrepancies, shortages, or damages to the relevant internal stakeholders.
• Provide ad hoc field support to sales representatives, including follow-ups on hospital or customer requests.
• Act as a professional and reliable point of contact between the company and healthcare professionals.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with surgeons, nurses, and theatre personnel.
