Job summary

Nelson Mandela University seeks a dedicated cleaner to maintain a hygienic environment across academic and support areas. You will perform routine and deep cleaning of floors, surfaces, classrooms, offices, residences, kitchens and outdoor spaces, ensuring health and safety standards are met.

Applicants should have Grade 8–12 and up to 12 months cleaning experience, with willingness to work in a team and independently.

Qualifications

• Grade 8–12 or equivalent.
• Up to 12 months experience in cleaning operations with a proven teamwork record.

Responsibilities

• Clean Mandela University buildings, corridors, public and outdoor spaces.
• Perform general and deep cleaning of floors, surfaces, ablutions, kitchens and outdoor areas.
• Adhere to health & safety standards and manage cleaning supplies and equipment.

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

• To provide cleaning services to the university community in relation to academic and support areas i.e., maintaining a clean and hygienic environment at the university

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Cleaning of Mandela University Buildings / venues including corridors and public /outdoor spaces/areas.
• General and deep cleaning of floors and surfaces (includes dusting (including high level or vertical dusting)), sweeping/vacuuming, mopping/washing, scrubbing, polishing as well as carpet cleaning.
• General and deep cleaning of ablution facilities
• General and deep cleaning of NMU buildings: offices, classrooms, residences, tv rooms, laundry areas, staff rooms, libraries, labs, conference rooms, clinics
• General and Deep Cleaning of kitchens
• General and Deep Cleaning of outdoor areas
• Occupational health & safety
• Collection of keys/swipe cards, cleaning consumables, cleaning equipment and accountability thereof.
