Qualifications

  • Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
  • 3-5 years mining experience (underground).
  • Mechanical Foreman’s Certificate of Competence or the ability to obtain a foreman certificate within 12 to 24 months.
  • Artisan Trade Certificate (Section 13 or Section 26D) with proof of formal learnership programme.
  • National N2 Certificate or higher with suitable mechanical background.

  • Relevant valid Artisan Trade Certificate (Section 13 or Section 26D) with proof of formal learnership programme
  • National N2 Certificate or higher with suitable mechanical background

  • Liaising with the necessary entities on any environmental management related requirements and alignment where applicable.
  • Collaborating with external service providers regarding the design and implementation of tools to enhance processes. Financial Management Working Cost Budgets:
  • Setting and approving budgeting parameters for the Division in line with business requirements and financial objectives.
  • Approving operational expenditure.
  • Formulating monthly and annual budgets.
  • Report on variances from the budget and the reasons for those variances Cost Savings:
  • Leading and driving cost saving and cash conservation initiatives.

  • Provide SHE leadership within the unit in line with Unit objectives
  • Monitor compliance to SHE requirements in the work environment
  • Carries accountability and responsibility for ensuring the safe achievement of targets
  • Develops and installs pro-active approach to all safety issues in the working place Quality Management System (QMS):
  • Approve department’s documents.
  • Comply with requirements of the Quality Management System.
  • Manage documentation and records within the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Quality Management System
  • Maintain and update existing policies and procedures
  • Apply and continuously improve policies and procedures
  • Conduct internal audits of the Quality Management System

  • Administrative duties
  • Check Shift Communication Log book for any problems reported and special instructions that need to be addressed
  • Determine material allocations based on the BOM
  • Verify statutory and daily examinations records
  • Takes responsibility for project controls, cost estimates, quantity take-offs and manpower requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Analyse reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other data to plan and design work.
  • Coordinate day-to-day mechanical activities and monitor plant performance.
  • Write daily and weekly reports and investigate operations within area of control.
  • Attend meetings and communicate with teams on a continuous basis.
  • Control and distribute stock within area of responsibility. Equipment maintenance and Optimization
  • Have input in scheduling planned maintenance of equipment
  • Decide on relevant type of maintenance to be performed
  • Oversee maintenance process and providing support and coaching to subordinates
  • Conduct random inspections on tasks performed by subordinates)
  • Oversee that breakdowns are repaired Task Analysis
  • Conduct Task Analyses and take appropriate action to address identified risks
  • Plans, executes and supervises all day-to-day processes and maintenance activities within area of responsibility Risk Assessments
  • Conduct baseline risk assessments and take appropriate action
  • Conduct issue-based risk assessments and take appropriate action
  • Conduct an investigation into workplace incidents
  • Conduct a preliminary investigation into workplace incidents and accidents
Additional Requirements
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years’ relevant experience in the field of the applied position will be advantageous
Job Purpose
  • To oversee the overall maintenance function of mechanical equipment, by preparing and modifying specifications and calculations; and monitoring work for compliance with applicable codes, accepted practices and standards.
