Job summary

Sibanye-Stillwater in Brits, North West, South Africa, seeks an experienced Protection Services leader to manage Asset Protection and security operations across plant and site areas.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Advanced Certificate in Security Management or law enforcement is required.
• At least 5 years in Protection Services Control Room environment, with 2 years in supervisory or specialist area.
• Firearm competency and Grade A PSIRA certificate are required.
• Medically fit for the work area and clear screening record.

Responsibilities

• Develop proactive and reactive security strategies aligned with standards and safety acts.
• Lead protection measures including incident response, evidence collection, and post-incident assessment.
• Advise management on tactical issues affecting protection functions and security improvements.
• Provide leadership to security staff and ensure compliance with policies, SOPs and post orders.
• Design and implement cost-effective security solutions and optimize protection across assets.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop pro-active and reactive strategies against security threats by ensuring cost effectiveness of security and risk prevention measures that are aligned with the Gold and Platinum Security Standard and Health and Safety Act.
• Contribute towards addressing issues of tactical importance by implementing effective protection measures that will lead to a process of anticipating, detecting, assigning appropriate responses, effective post incident assessment, and ultimately the collection of appropriate evidence that can lead to successful prosecution.
• Advise Management on tactical issues within the scope of the protection functions that does or could influence business. Offers recommendations for solutions to address such situations e.g. additional cameras in focal areas.
• Ensure that matters of tactical value are executed within the Department by providing leadership.
• Support the SPS function by providing input to develop and review policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to area of responsibilities.
• Recommend and develop new concepts that support the extension of best practices and ensures that they are implemented and maintained throughout the Group.
• Support the long-term strategic direction of the operation by providing a solid system for the management of information gathering and integration, and effective resources and methods of investigation, and apprehension.
• Supervise subordinates in the performance of their duties by conducting audits on the process of surveillance, the recognition of relevant behavioural cues when an incident occurs, their sensitivity to behaviours that are associated with how offences are committed.
• Actively participate in managing current protection infrastructure, architecture, and protocols.
• Assist in designing cost effective appropriate security solutions to ensure optimal protection.
• Effectively co-ordinate and manage all security functions to ensure that the required processes tasks and activities are performed effectively during a shift.
• Actively ensure compliance of Company Policies, SOP’s and post orders.
• Identify and develop security procedures and/or post orders found to be lacking, redundant or outdated.
• Develop action plans, managing and controlling all resources to ensure effective implementation of objectives.
• Leading, motivating, developing, and training subordinates to create a unified performance driven team, focusing on health and safety aspects.
• Attend and participate in regular meetings with line management, presents information, report back on events affecting the department and provide feedback on various aspects e.g. queries, fault resolution and enhancements.
• Keep abreast of latest relevant developments, innovations, and technologies in the industry.

Additional Requirements

• NQF 7 (Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma) Security Management or law enforcement would be advantageous

Job Purpose

• To manage the Asset Protection function for the Group with the aim to provide a valuable security service to ensure maximum protection of employees, the prime product and company assets against criminal activities through effective surveillance of Plant, Shaft and other areas.
