Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Subsurface Geoscientist for our Stellenbosch operations. The role focuses on seismic interpretation, geological modeling, and data integration to identify hydrocarbon potential and guide exploration and development decisions.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in Geology/Geophysics with 6+ years in Oil & Gas, proficiency in Petrel/Kingdom/GeoGraphix, and strong analytical and communication skills to collaborate with engineers and geoscientists.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geology, Geophysics, or a related geoscience discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in subsurface geoscience roles within Oil & Gas.
• Proven experience in seismic interpretation and geological modeling.
• Strong understanding of structural geology, stratigraphy, and sedimentology.
• Proficiency with industry-standard geoscience software (Petrel, Kingdom, GeoGraphix).
• Experience in prospect evaluation and risk assessment is essential.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
• Effective communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform seismic data interpretation (2D/3D) to map geological structures and identify potential traps.
• Integrate and analyze various subsurface data, including well logs, core data, and production information.
• Develop and refine geological models and subsurface interpretations.
• Evaluate exploration and appraisal opportunities, assessing geological risks and uncertainties.
• Contribute to prospect generation and delineation.
• Collaborate with reservoir engineers on reservoir characterization and performance analysis.
• Work with drilling teams to provide geological support during well planning and execution.
• Utilize advanced geological software and visualization tools.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and management.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies in geoscience.
