About the Role

Our client, a leading innovator in the energy industry, is seeking a highly analytical and driven Subsurface Geoscientist with a focus on New Ventures to join their team in Midrand, Gauteng, ZA . This role is critical for identifying and evaluating unexplored geological basins and frontier areas with significant potential for resource discovery. You will leverage advanced geological and geophysical techniques, integrate diverse datasets, and provide robust technical assessments to guide strategic investment decisions in new exploration frontiers. The ideal candidate possesses a strong blend of geological expertise, geophysical interpretation skills, and a passion for high-impact exploration.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate new exploration opportunities in frontier and underdeveloped basins globally.
• Integrate and interpret multi-disciplinary subsurface data, including seismic, well logs, gravity, magnetic, and geochemical data.
• Develop regional geological models and play fairway analyses for prospective areas.
• Assess the petroleum systems elements (source, reservoir, seal, trap, preservation) for potential discoveries.
• Perform risk assessments and uncertainty analysis for new venture opportunities.
• Collaborate with exploration teams, management, and potential partners to present technical findings and recommendations.
• Utilize advanced subsurface modeling and visualization software.
• Contribute to the strategic planning of new venture exploration campaigns.
• Stay abreast of global exploration trends, technologies, and best practices.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. degree in Geology, Geophysics, or a related geoscience discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in exploration geology or geophysics, with a significant focus on new ventures or frontier exploration.
• Proven track record in identifying and maturing new exploration prospects.
• Expertise in seismic interpretation, basin analysis, and petroleum systems modeling.
• Proficiency with industry-standard geological and geophysical software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom, Dante, GOCAD).
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities, capable of articulating complex geological concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment, balancing collaboration with independent analysis.
• Experience with data room evaluations and due diligence is a plus.
• A proactive and entrepreneurial approach to identifying new opportunities.
