SACAP (The South African College of Applied Psychology) seeks a Student Wellness Advisor for the Cape Town campus to support students with disabilities and barriers to learning. You will assess needs, craft tailored support plans, and coordinate faculty to foster an inclusive environment while providing counselling and advocacy for student wellbeing.

You will work with the Disability Committee, Student Support Teams, and Academic teams, reporting to the Student Wellness Manager and collaborating

Qualifications

  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in disability support services, counselling, or a related field.
  • HPCSA registration or relevant counselling certification is a plus.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and resources.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Assess student needs and develop individualised support plans.
  • Coordinate faculty and staff to ensure an inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide counselling and advocacy to promote student well‑being and academic success.

Job description

SACAP (The South African College of Applied Psychology) is the leading independent provider of accredited Psychology, Counselling, Human Resource Management, Business Management and Social Work qualifications, with all courses grounded in psychology. We have campuses in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Online.

SACAP is looking to employ a Student Wellness Advisor for the Cape Town campus. This role will provide comprehensive support services to students with disabilities and learning barriers. This role involves assessing student needs, developing individualised support plans, and coordinating faculty and staff to ensure an inclusive and accessible learning environment. The advisor will also provide counselling and advocacy to promote student well-being and academic success.

This position will closely liaise with the Disability Committee, Student Support Teams, Student Administration and Academic teams.

This role reports directly to the Student Wellness Manager and will work closely and collaboratively with the broader national student support and development teams.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCES
  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in disability support services, counselling, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in counselling (HPCSA registration) or disability support are a plus.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and resources.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
Skills
  • Strong understanding of disability laws and regulations (e.g., ADA, Section 504).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualised support plans.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Empathy and sensitivity to the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using assistive technologies and software.

This is a full-time position operating from Monday to Friday*:

Monday – Thursday: 08:30 – 17:00
