As a Strategic Projects Engineer at Mventech, you will support the evaluation and development of strategic mining, industrial and business opportunities by integrating engineering, operational, production and financial information into robust techno-economic models.
The role sits at the intersection of engineering, data analysis, simulation and economics. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to understand complex systems, test development and operating scenarios, evaluate trade-offs and translate technical decisions into commercial outcomes.
A key focus of the role will be the development and application of MEO and associated analytical tools to support feasibility studies, strategic planning, capital investment decisions and business-case development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain integrated techno-economic and simulation models in MEO.
- Integrate mining, processing, production, infrastructure, capital cost, operating cost and revenue assumptions into coherent project models.
- Analyse large and complex technical, operational and financial datasets.
- Develop scenarios, sensitivities and optimisation studies to evaluate alternative project configurations.
- Translate engineering and operational assumptions into economic and commercial outcomes.
- Identify key value drivers, constraints, risks and opportunities within projects.
- Work with Mining, Process, Engineering, Finance and Project Management teams to validate assumptions and model inputs.
- Support feasibility studies, strategic planning exercises and investment evaluations.
- Develop business cases and decision-support material for management and client teams.
- Prepare reports, presentations and visualisations that clearly communicate model outputs and recommendations.
- Maintain clear assumptions, calculation logic and model traceability.
- Conduct benchmarking and comparative analysis to validate technical and cost assumptions.
- Automate and improve modelling processes, tools and templates where practical.
- Support the continued development of MEO through practical application, user feedback and functional improvement.
- Contribute to Mventech's strategic project evaluation and techno-economic modelling methodologies.
Qualifications:
- BEng or BSc Engineering degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Mining, Industrial, Electrical or another relevant engineering discipline.
- A relevant master's degree would be highly advantageous.
Experience:
- Experience in engineering, mining, mineral processing, industrial projects, strategic planning or feasibility studies.
- Experience developing analytical, simulation, technical or financial models.
- Exposure to multidisciplinary project environments.
- Experience evaluating technical options, scenarios or business cases would be advantageous.
- Strong quantitative and analytical capability.
- Ability to build structured, transparent and auditable models.
- Ability to work confidently with large, complex or imperfect datasets.
- Understanding of engineering and operational systems.
- Strong problem-solving capability.
- Scenario and sensitivity analysis.
- Techno-economic evaluation.
- Capital and operating cost analysis.
- Data interpretation and visualisation.
Experience with the following would be advantageous:
- MEO or similar simulation and modelling platforms.
- Power Query.
- Power BI.
- Python.
- SQL.
- Mine planning or production simulation tools.
The successful candidate should:
- Be naturally curious and enjoy solving complex problems.
- Be able to understand the engineering behind the numbers.
- Challenge assumptions that do not make technical or commercial sense.
- Be comfortable working across engineering, operations and finance.
- Think logically and structure complex problems clearly.
- Be comfortable working with incomplete information and developing reasonable assumptions.
- Take ownership of models and analytical work.
- Communicate complex findings in a simple and practical manner.
- Work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Be comfortable presenting findings to technical specialists, Project Managers and senior decisionmakers.
