Job summary

MECS Africa is seeking a Head of Procurement to lead and transform its procurement function across a complex, multi-site mining environment. The role focuses on moving from transactional purchasing to delivering measurable commercial value and strengthening partnerships with operations, maintenance, engineering and capital projects.

Qualifications

• 12–15+ years' procurement and supply chain experience with senior leadership responsibility.
• Strong experience in mining, contract mining, engineering, or capital-intensive environments.
• Proven ability to lead a complex, multi-site procurement function.
• Expertise in strategic sourcing, category management and negotiations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the procurement strategy and operating model.
• Embed category management and strategic sourcing across major spend areas.
• Drive cost savings, avoidance and total cost of ownership initiatives.
• Provide strategic procurement oversight of fleet, plant, CAPEX and production services.
• Lead negotiations with OEMs, suppliers and contractors; manage relationships.
• Establish supplier performance, contract management and risk frameworks.
• Ensure procurement governance, Delegation of Authority and audit readiness.
• Develop sourcing pipelines and improve procurement planning and service delivery.
• Identify and mitigate supply-chain risks for critical goods and suppliers.
• Report spend, savings and performance data to Finance and Exco.
• Build a high-performing team through leadership and capability development.
• Partner with stakeholders to align procurement with production and maintenance needs.
• Lead procurement transformation and technology adoption.
