Job summary

South African Airways (SAA) Technical is seeking an Assistant Plumber for a 12-month fixed term contract in Kempton Park, Gauteng.

The role supports plumbers in inspection, maintenance and repair of plumbing infrastructure to ensure continuous water supply, sanitation and safety compliance.

Key duties include assisting with Planned Preventive Maintenance, leak repair, drain cleaning and reporting issues, with emphasis on safety, PPE and Workplace rules.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent required.
• Plumbing Trade Theory Certificate or N2 Plumbing Studies advantageous.
• Plumbing Learnership or Apprenticeship completed or in progress.
• Valid Driver's Licence will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) activities.
• Assist in repairing leaking taps, pipes, valves, and fittings.
• Assist with drain cleaning and blockage removal.
• Support installation of plumbing fixtures and fittings.
• Conduct routine inspections of plumbing infrastructure.
• Record work completed and assist with job card completion.

Job Purpose

To assist the Plumber in the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of plumbing infrastructure across SAA & SAAT facilities. The incumbent supports preventative and corrective maintenance activities to ensure the continuous supply of water, effective sanitation services, and compliance with safety and maintenance standards.

Principal Accountabilities

• Assist with Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) activities
• Assist in repairing leaking taps, pipes, valves, and fittings
• Assist with drain cleaning and blockage removal
• Support installation of plumbing fixtures and fittings
• Conduct routine inspections of plumbing infrastructure
• Report defects and leaks
• Assist with condition assessments of plumbing assets
• Assist with water meter readings
• Support leak detection activities
• Assist with water conservation initiatives
• Maintain tools and equipment
• Keep work areas clean and safe
• Record work completed
• Assist with job card completion
• Report maintenance issues promptly
• Store materials correctly
• Follow safe work procedures
• Use PPE correctly
• Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings

Qualifications & Experience

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 4
• Plumbing Trade Theory Certificate or N2 Plumbing Studies will be an advantage
• Plumbing Learnership or Apprenticeship (completed or in progress)
• Valid Driver's Licence will be an advantage
• 1 - 2 years' experience in plumbing maintenance, construction, or facilities management environments
• Experience assisting qualified plumbers with maintenance and repairs
