Job summary

Abantu Staffing Solutions (Pty) Ltd in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), South Africa, is seeking an experienced import buyer for a manufacturing environment. The role focuses on strategic sourcing, supplier management and ensuring timely supply of direct materials to meet production deadlines.

You will negotiate with vendors, develop buying strategies with cross-functional teams, and analyze total costs to uncover savings. Strong knowledge of logistics and FIFO stock handling is required.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Logistics Management or equivalent.
• Knowledge of INCO Terms, transport regulations and procedures.
• Experience in sourcing new suppliers and products.
• Costing and estimating acumen.
• Knowledge of warehousing and storage (receipts and FIFO standards).
• Minimum 5 years import buying experience within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Support internal clients by adding value to bottom line through strategic sourcing, procurement and supplying direct materials to production to meet deadlines and targets.
• Select and negotiate with approved vendors, placing purchase orders to drive cost efficiency.
• Implement buying strategies with cross-functional teams to improve quality and cost efficiency.
• Assess and report on category and contract spend with total cost analyses to support cost-reduction opportunities.
• Assist in developing, reviewing and implementing purchasing and contract management policies and procedures.
• Regularly liaise with suppliers and review bids with Supervisor/Manager before orders to align with quality, price and shelf life.
• Ensure effective communication of information to stakeholders for decision-making.
• Review APO system for future planned production and manage stock availability for future needs.
• Coordinate procurement and invoicing to ensure suppliers are paid correctly and on time.
• Liaise with key stakeholders to improve services, quality and cost efficiency.
• Manage offsite warehouse activities to ensure efficient service delivery to manufacturing sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support internal clients by adding value to bottom line (including cost and quality), through strategic sourcing, procurement and supplying direct materials on an ongoing basis to support production to meet their deadlines, in line with set targets and customer expectations
• Select and negotiate with approved vendors, placing purchase orders in response to supply requirements to drive cost efficiency
• Implement buying strategies by working with cross-functional teams to develop sourcing and vendor management strategy to improve quality and cost efficiency
• Assess and report on specific category and contract spend, by conducting regular total cost analysis to track performance results in a continuous cycle to support the business in driving decision-making around cost-reduction opportunities
• Assist in developing, reviewing and implementing purchasing and contract management policies and procedures in line with business requirements
• Regularly liaise with suppliers, secure and review bids with Supervisor/ Manager before placing orders in line with quality, price, shelf life and profitability objectives
• Ensure effective communication of relevant information to all stakeholders to support decision-making for the business
• Regularly review APO system (customer releases) for future planned production, and manage the availability of stock for future production requirements to minimize unforeseen problems
• Coordinate and verify the procurement and invoicing process to ensure that suppliers and contractors are paid correctly and on time
• Liaise and build effective working relationships with key stakeholder, including suppliers and contractors to improve services, quality and cost efficiency
• Manage the offsite warehouse by directing activities and monitoring performance to ensure efficient service delivery to manufacturing sites
