Job summary

Schlemmer in Pinetown, South Africa, is seeking a Space Planner to develop customer-focused floor plans and planograms that optimise shelf space and drive category performance. You will work with Buyers, Planners, Category Managers, and Operations to turn insights into merchandising solutions.

You will analyse space allocation, SKU profitability, and store layouts, while supporting openings, revamps, and assortment planning.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Marketing, Business Commerce or Supply Chain.
• 2–3 years' Space Planning experience.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with CAD, JDA, or Spaceman Space Planning tools.
• Working knowledge of floor planning systems and SAP or AS400.
• Strong commercial awareness with ability to interpret data.

Responsibilities

• Develop customer-focused floor plans and planograms aligned to category strategies and shopper insights.
• Design merchandising layouts that maximise space, sales, profitability and customer convenience.
• Create site-specific planograms and optimise shelf layouts for assigned categories.
• Analyse space allocation, category performance, and SKU profitability using business data.
• Review macro, midi, and micro-space against established standards.
• Support store openings, revamps, promotional strategies, and assortment planning.
• Monitor planogram implementation, conduct store visits, and post-implementation reviews.
• Analyse sales performance, stock availability, compliance, and out-of-stock trends.
• Maintain category master data, image libraries, fixture databases, and modular information.
• Support assortment optimisation projects through data analysis and commercial insights.
• Build strong relationships with Buyers, Planners, Category Managers, Operations, Suppliers, and Store Development teams

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Are you passionate about retail merchandising, customer behaviour, and data-driven decision making?

Our client in Pinetown is looking for a Space Planner to join their team and play a key role in developing customer-focused planograms that optimise shelf space, improve the shopping experience, and drive category performance. This role combines analytical thinking with creative merchandising to deliver effective space planning solutions across stores.

Working closely with Buyers, Planners, Category Managers, and Operations teams, you'll use customer insights, market research, and commercial data to maximise sales, profitability, and operational efficiency.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Develop customer-focused floor plans and planograms aligned to category strategies and shopper insights
• Design merchandising layouts that maximise retail space, sales, profitability, and customer convenience
• Create site-specific planograms and optimise shelf layouts for assigned categories
• Analyse space allocation, category performance, and SKU profitability using business data

• Support new store openings, revamps, promotional strategies, and assortment planning

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Business-related qualification in Marketing, Business Commerce, Supply Chain, or a related field
• 2–3 years' experience within a Space Planning environment
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Experience using CAD, JDA, Spaceman, or similar Space Planning software
• Working knowledge of Floor Planning systems and AS400 or SAP
• Strong commercial awareness with excellent analytical skills
• Ability to interpret and present complex data
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Strong organisational and time management abilities
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
