Placements24 is seeking an experienced Solar Farm Operations Manager to oversee daily operations of solar facilities in and around Pretoria, Gauteng, ZA. This on-site role requires hands-on leadership to maximize energy output, ensure safety, and optimize reliability of PV plants.

You will manage maintenance schedules, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement while liaising with grid operators and contractors. A strong background in electrical or mechanical engineering is essential.

Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated and experienced Solar Farm Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of their solar facilities in and around Pretoria, Gauteng, ZA. This is a critical on-site role responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of our solar power plants. You will lead a team of technicians and site personnel, manage maintenance schedules, troubleshoot operational issues, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. The ideal candidate has a strong background in electrical or mechanical engineering, a deep understanding of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology, and proven leadership skills. This position requires hands-on involvement and a commitment to maximizing energy output and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize the performance of utility-scale solar farms
• Develop and implement comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance programs
• Supervise and coordinate the activities of site operations and maintenance teams
• Monitor plant performance using SCADA and other monitoring systems
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to PV panels, inverters, and balance-of-system components
• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies
• Manage spare parts inventory and contractor relationships
• Prepare operational reports, performance analyses, and budgets
• Liaise with grid operators and utility companies regarding plant operations
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations and maintenance of solar PV power plants
• Proven experience in managing technical teams and site operations
• In-depth knowledge of solar PV technology, including inverters, modules, and mounting systems
• Familiarity with SCADA systems and performance monitoring tools
• Strong understanding of electrical safety principles and procedures
• Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various sites as needed
