Job description:
The Role:

We're looking for a Software Development Manager who will provide strategic technical direction, manage multiple teams, and ensure our technology platforms are resilient, scalable and secure. You'll be a strategic partner to the product head, providing end-to-end technical leadership, building high-performing teams, and driving product and platform architecture.

This is an opportunity to shape a critical technology environment, influence modern engineering practices at scale, and lead teams through a meaningful cloud and platform transformation journey.

What you’ll do:
  • Provide end-to-end technical leadership across product/platform delivery, system health, engineering standards, support and maintenance.
  • Build and lead high-performing software teams, create the conditions for predictable delivery and drive continuous improvement.
  • Set the standards for how code is deployed across pipelines, ensure system reliability and drive modern engineering and platform practices
  • Work closely with architects to shape solutions and define how those solutions need to be implemented — while architecture remains a specialist discipline, you will need the technical depth to challenge, guide and shape implementation decisions
  • Oversee IT governance across the teams
  • Drive technology modernisation across the team
  • Through cloud computing, AWS, event-driven architecture, automation and platform engineering practices.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the business
What we’re looking for:

Technical skills:

Our technology modernisation requires a thorough understanding of cloud computing, AWS, event-driven architecture, automation and platform engineering practices.

Specifically, you'll need:

  • Strong cloud computing knowledge — AWS is our enterprise platform, so AWS experience makes the biggest difference)
  • A solid grasp of event-based architecture, the patterns used, how distributed systems work and observability
  • An understanding of architecture and technical strategy — enough to shape solutions and engage with architects at a senior level

Leadership and management:

  • Proven ability to lead, develop and grow multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong delivery management — you set the pace and remove the blockers
  • Experience driving reskilling and team transformation
  • Confident stakeholder management, with the ability to engage across technical and business audiences
Experience:
  • You'll need at least 8 years of software engineering experience, with 3–5 of those in an engineering leadership or technical management role.
  • You should have experience leading multidisciplinary teams, delivering cloud-native solutions (preferably AWS), working with event-driven architecture and managing stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience with event-driven and distributed architectures in high-volume or highly integrated environments.
  • Experience improving engineering maturity through DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, Infrastructure as Code and platform practices.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum: Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Certifications: AWS Cloud Practitioner or equivalent cloud foundation certification.
  • AWS Solutions Architect strongly preferred.
  • Preferred Hoours degree or relevant postgraduate qualifications
  • FinOps, DevOps, Security, TOGAF, SAFe and Kubernetes certifications advantageous.
Conditions of Employment
  • Clear criminal and credit record
