Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a compassionate Social Worker to join the Family Services team in George. You will support families facing domestic issues, child welfare concerns and financial instability, helping them navigate systems and access resources for resilience and well-being.

Work collaboratively with local organizations and government agencies to deliver comprehensive support within the Western Cape community. The role requires SACSSP registration and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field.
  • SACSSP registration is mandatory.
  • Minimum 2 years in family support, child protection or community-based social work.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and ethical considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of family needs and identify intervention areas.
  • Develop and implement tailored case management plans including counselling and advocacy.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to families in acute distress.
  • Connect families with community resources such as housing, legal aid and mental health services.
  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain client documentation per agency standards.
  • Conduct home visits and community outreach to ensure service delivery.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities


  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of family needs, identifying strengths and areas requiring intervention.

  • Develop and implement tailored case management plans, including counselling and advocacy.

  • Provide crisis intervention and support to families experiencing acute difficulties.

  • Connect families with appropriate community resources, such as housing assistance, legal aid, and mental health services.

  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate client documentation in compliance with agency standards.

  • Conduct home visits and community outreach to ensure effective service delivery.


Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.

  • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in family support, child protection, or community-based social work.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and ethical considerations in social work practice.

  • Excellent counselling, mediation, and report-writing skills.

  • Proficiency in both English and Afrikaans is highly desirable for working within the George community.
