Job summary

Omnia Group Careers is seeking a SHERQ Practitioner in Fourways, Johannesburg, to complete internal audits across surface and underground sites in line with mine requirements. You will maintain an audit schedule, ensure compliance, and conduct first party process safety, pump and boiler safety audits on a sample basis.

The role requires a Diploma in a technical field, safety management qualifications, and an auditing lead auditor course, with 3–5 years in heavy mining and 2–3 years in SHERQ

Responsibilities

• Perform planned job analyses on a sample basis; conduct pump and boiler safety audits on a sample basis.
• Relieve SHERQ officers during leave; support process safety and sustainability projects.
• Maintain and improve SHERQ management systems and assurance processes across sites.

Role Impact:

This purpose of the SHERQ Practitioner is to complete all internal site audits in line with mine requirements for both surface and underground across all BME sites. Maintain an audit schedule and ensure compliance to that schedule and conduct first party process safety; pump safety and boiler safety audits on a sample basis

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct all internal audits in line with the mine requirements and ensure that all mine contractual safety requirements are being adhered to
• Review SOPs to ensure that it is a true reflection of the activities carried out on the work floor
• Conduct planned job analysis on a sample basis
• Conduct first party pump and boiler safety audits on a sample basis
• Must be able to relieve SHERQ officers during leave or extended sick leave
• Assist site management with process safety implementation and sustainability projects
• Maintain and improve SHERQ management systems and assurance processes across operational sites
• Provide governance, administration and support for SHERQ systems, auditing programmes, document control and compliance management
• Support, coordinate and embed SHERQ governance & compliance, across BME's international operations, ensuring alignment with Group standards, regulatory requirements and best practices across multiple countries
• Effective record management practices across sites and functions within the Omnia document ecosystem
• Evaluation of the effectiveness of procedures written by means of on-site verification and testing using PTO's
• Stakeholder consultations for the upkeep of BME Divisional Procedures

Qualifications:

• Diploma minimum in a technical field (mining, engineering, chemistry) supported by specialist safety certificates or equivalent
• Safety management qualification backed by extensive mining experience
• Auditing lead auditor course

Experience:

• 3 to 5 years demonstrated experience in a heavy operational mining environment
• 2 to 3 years demonstrated experience in SHERQ management systems and auditing of such systems
• Process safety background (Advantageous)
• ISO 45000 exposure and auditing (Advantageous)
• High proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Ability to present information in a consistent, organized and accurate way
• Proven ability to work effectively cross-functions
• Ability to communicate in both a verbal and written manner and work effectively across all levels
• Ability to solve problems and make decisions
• Ability to process and analyse high volumes of data
• Ability to develop/write technical reports and presentations
• High capacity to deal with areas of conflicts between various stakeholders
• Excellent interpersonal/customer relationship skills required, with the ability to liaise diplomatically and maintain solid business relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
