The role ensures compliance with health and safety standards, conducts infection control measures, and coordinates systems to meet high-quality care and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Nursing degree/diploma with SANC registration.
• Risk management certificate or equivalent.
• 3–5 years’ experience in a hospital/healthcare SHERQ environment.
• Current BLS accreditation.
• Knowledge of SA nursing scope of practice and quality management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate the yearly SHERQ action plan and roadmap.
• Prepare monthly SHERQ progress reports for leadership forums.
• Coordinate policy reviews and implementation with management and staff.
• Support Hospital Manager in annual National Core Standards reviews.
• Coordinate training plans and DOH requirements with HR Business Partner.
• Maintain quality accreditations and pursue new ones.
• Compile SHERQ reports and investigate incidents with timelines.
• Ensure reporting compliance with COID and related legislation.
• Develop infection prevention guidelines and corrective actions at ward level.
• Maintain risk registers and monitor risk mitigation actions.
• Facilitate risk assessments (general, manual handling, etc.) and liaise with specialists as needed.
• Monitor absenteeism and safety incident trends to drive improvements.
• Ensure PPE availability for all staff and conduct environmental and patient safety checks.
