Job summary

Gold Fields is recruiting for a Shaft Timberman at South Deep Gold Mine in South Africa. The role focuses on safe construction and maintenance at the shaft and shaft stations, with inspections, pipe changes and coordination of Timberman Assistants.

You will also be responsible for explosives control and adherence to Mine Health & Safety Act requirements. The ideal candidate holds Grade 12, Onsetter and Blasting Certificates, with at least 2 years in shaft/construction environments and fitness to

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Onsetter Certificate.
• Blasting Certificate applicable to hard rock mining.
• Minimum of 2 years working experience in a shaft and construction environment.
• Medically fit and able to pass a heat tolerance screening and other required tests.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health and safety of self and team during shaft maintenance.
• Perform shaft inspections and ensure safe constructions, pipe changes and signage.
• Control use of explosives and maintain records as required.
• Supervise Shaft Timberman Assistants and coordinate basic construction work.
• Conduct pre-work assessments and participate in safety meetings.
• Inspect shaft barrel and weekly safety checks of hanging side/footwall.
