Job summary

Tetra Pak is seeking an experienced Service Engineer based in Cape Town, South Africa, to join the Customer Service Operations team. The role requires extensive travel (approximately 75%) to customer sites across Southern Africa and acts as the primary technical contact ensuring exceptional service delivery and relationship management.

You will lead installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of processing equipment, with a focus on instrumented systems, pumps and homogenizers.

Qualifications

  • Trade-tested/technical qualification in a relevant field.
  • Min. five years in the Food & Beverage industry.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical capabilities for processing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead installation, commissioning and preventive/corrective maintenance of processing equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and automation systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent solutions.
  • Provide operator training at customer sites.
  • Ensure food safety, QA and OHS compliance.
  • Develop knowledge through certifications and knowledge sharing.
  • Prepare and submit service reports and related documentation.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Service Engineer to join our Customer Service Operations (CSO) team. Based in Cape Town, the successful candidate will deliver services and critical technical support to customers across the Southern Africa region. This role requires a high degree of autonomy and involves extensive travel (approximately 75%) to customer sites often at short notice. You will serve as a primary technical point of contact, ensuring the sustained reputation of Tetra Pak through exceptional service delivery and relationship management.

What You Will Do

  • Technical Execution: Lead the installation, commissioning, preventive and corrective maintenance of Tetra Pak processing equipment and components per established global standards.
  • Diagnostic & Repairs: Perform comprehensive analysis and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical and automation systems to ensure equipment performs to defined specifications.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct systematic problem-solving to facilitate permanent technical resolutions and escalate complex issues through our established internal channels.
  • Operational Training: Facilitate production support and provide technical training to operator personnel at customer sites.
  • Quality & Safety Compliance: Ensure all activities adhere strictly to Food Safety regulations, Quality Assurance protocols, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures.
  • Knowledge Leadership: Drive your technical development by obtaining & maintaining certifications on key components and processing modules. Actively participate in the development of colleagues by sharing technical knowledge and lessons learnt.
  • Administrative Diligence: Ensure the timely and accurate submission of service reports, time logs, travel expenses, and formal correspondence.
We believe you have

  • Education: Trade Tested Artisan / Technician or National Diploma (Process Instrumentation, Millwright, Mechanical Fitter or similar).
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant technical experience within the Food & Beverage industry.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Demonstrated ability in installing, maintaining and troubleshooting process instrumentation, mechanical equipment such as pumps and valves, and processing machinery such as Homogenisers, Centrifugal Separators and High Shear Mixers.
    • Automation Skills: experience with Siemens S7-300 / 1200 / 1500 PLC hardware and software skills will be an advantage.
    • Methodology: Familiarity with WCM/TPM principles, such as Continuous Improvement, is an asset.

  • A valid driver’s license and passport.
  • A strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple internal & external stakeholders effectively.
  • The ability to work independently and to lead a team of service engineers on larger assignments.
