Placements24 is assisting a major industrial complex in Vereeniging to recruit a Senior Chemical Engineer to manage and optimize utilities and infrastructure systems within a large-scale plant. The role focuses on steam generation, water treatment, compressed air, and effluent management, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency across operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 8+ years in managing and optimizing industrial utility systems.
• In-depth knowledge of steam generation, water treatment, compressed air, and effluent treatment.
• Experience with process control systems and instrumentation.
• Strong safety and environmental regulatory knowledge.
• Proven project management capabilities.
• Leadership and ability to manage technical teams.
• Ability to work in a demanding industrial environment in Vereeniging.

Responsibilities

• Oversee design, operation, and maintenance of industrial utility systems (steam boilers, cooling towers, compressed air, wastewater treatment).
• Develop strategies for energy efficiency and resource conservation across utility operations.
• Conduct inspections and performance audits of utility infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex operational issues within utility systems.
• Manage capital projects related to upgrading and expanding utility services.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits for discharges and emissions.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for utility equipment.
• Liaise with vendors, contractors, and regulatory bodies as required.
• Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians on utility operations and maintenance.
• Analyze utility data to identify trends and optimize performance.
