Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter in Gauteng to evaluate and approve or reject insurance risks in line with underwriting philosophy. You will advise on complex risks, contribute to underwriting strategy, and mentor junior underwriters to ensure portfolio profitability.

The role requires sharp analytical skills, deep industry knowledge, and proactive risk management within a dynamic insurance market in South Africa.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience, senior level preferred.
• Experience with risk assessment, pricing, and policy wording.
• Strong grasp of financial principles and underwriting profitability.
• Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities.
• Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Assess, price, and accept or reject insurance applications according to guidelines.
• Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and agents for quality business.
• Analyze complex risks, identify exposures, and set coverage/pricing strategies.
• Monitor portfolio performance and provide insights for improvement.
• Mentor and train junior underwriters on technical skills and practices.
• Contribute to underwriting policy development and refinement.
