Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Ventilation Engineer for underground operations in Soweto. You will design, implement and maintain ventilation systems to ensure fresh air, control dust and fumes, and manage safe working temperatures.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mining or Mechanical Engineering with ventilation specialization and at least 5 years of underground mining ventilation experience, with proficiency in Ventsim and Ventgraph.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with ventilation specialization.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine ventilation engineering, especially underground mining.
• Proficiency with mine ventilation software for modeling (Ventsim, Ventgraph).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and air quality management.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation related to mine environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize mine ventilation networks to ensure adequate airflow and dilution of contaminants.
• Conduct ventilation surveys, air quality monitoring, and thermal stress assessments.
• Specify, install, and maintain ventilation equipment (fans, ducting, environmental controls).
• Develop and implement ventilation plans in compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Analyze ventilation data and modeling outputs to identify improvements and cost-effective solutions.
• Troubleshoot ventilation issues and provide technical support to site operations.
• Collaborate with mine planning and production teams to integrate ventilation requirements into mine design.
