Job summary

Placements24 in Vereeniging, Gauteng, is seeking a Telecom Network Planner to lead strategic planning and design of our telecom network infrastructure. This hybrid role focuses on capacity, coverage, and performance to meet current and future demands.

You will analyze network data, forecast traffic trends, and develop expansion strategies, working with engineering, operations, and deployment teams to translate plans into actionable projects that shape connectivity in Gauteng.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in telecommunications network planning or design.
• Strong understanding of mobile network technologies (2G/3G/4G/5G), transport networks (IP/MPLS), and core network architecture.
• Proficiency with network planning tools and simulation software (e.g., Atoll, Planet, TEMS).
• Experience in capacity planning, traffic forecasting, and performance analysis.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing telecommunications in South Africa.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Responsibilities

• Develop long-term and short-term network expansion and upgrade plans based on traffic forecasts and performance analysis.
• Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies for new network deployments and capacity enhancements.
• Design network architectures, including radio access, transport, and core network elements.
• Utilize network planning tools and software to model network performance and optimize resource allocation.
• Collaborate with vendors to evaluate and select appropriate network equipment and technologies.
• Prepare detailed planning documentation, including network diagrams, capacity reports, and cost estimates.
• Ensure network plans comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Work with deployment teams to ensure accurate and efficient implementation of network plans.
• Monitor network performance post-deployment and refine future planning strategies.
• Identify opportunities for technological innovation and service improvements within the network.
