Senior Tekla Draughtsman

Zusammenfassung

Time Personnel is seeking a senior structural detailing professional in South Africa to lead a Tekla-based team. You will build 3D steel models, detail connections, and generate fabrication drawings in line with SANS standards.

Responsibilities include coordinating with engineers, clients, and workshop teams, mentoring junior staff, and delivering drawings on schedule while maintaining company standards.

Qualifikationen

• National Diploma or National Certificate in Draughting or Civil/Structural Engineering.
• 5+ years’ structural steel detailing experience at advanced Tekla level.
• Experience with Tekla custom components, macros or model templates.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Navisworks or other BIM coordination tools.
• Strong knowledge of steel connection design, welding symbols and fabrication processes.
• Experience producing NC/DSTV files and working with CNC workshops.
• Able to read and interpret structural engineering and architectural drawings.
• Experience leading or supervising a detailing team.

Aufgaben

• Build and manage complete 3D structural steel models in Tekla from drawings.
• Detail connections, base plates, cleats, stiffeners, splices and bracing.
• Model staircases, handrails, platforms, walkways, purlins, girts and cladding support.
• Produce and check general arrangement, assembly and fabrication drawings.
• Generate bills of materials, bolt lists and NC/DSTV files for CNC.
• Raise and track RFIs, manage revisions, liaise with workshop and site teams.
• Mentor junior staff and improve Tekla templates and drawing standards.
• Meet project deadlines and report progress and risks.

REQUIREMENTS

• National Diploma or National Certificate in Draughting or Civil/Structural Engineering
• A minimum of 5 years’ structural steel detailing experience, including working in Tekla Structures at an advanced level.
• Experience with Tekla custom components, macros or model templates.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Navisworks or other BIM coordination tools.
• Strong knowledge of steel connection design principles, welding symbols and fabrication processes.
• Experience producing NC/DSTV files and working with CNC-driven workshops.
• Able to read and interpret structural engineering and architectural drawings.
• Experience with Tekla custom components, macros or model templates.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Navisworks or other BIM coordination tools.
• Experience leading or supervising a detailing team.
• Valid driver’s licence and own transport.

DUTIES

Modelling and detailing

• Build and manage complete 3D structural steel models in Tekla Structures from architectural and engineering drawings.
• Detail connections, base plates, cleats, stiffeners, splices and bracing in line with engineers’ design requirements and relevant SANS standards.
• Model and detail staircases, handrails, platforms, walkways, purlins, girts and cladding support steelwork.
• Resolve clashes and coordination issues before drawings are released.

Drawings and fabrication output

• Produce and check general arrangement drawings, assembly and single-part fabrication drawings, anchor bolt plans and erection drawings.
• Generate bills of materials, bolt lists, material lists and NC/DSTV files for CNC machinery.
• Ensure drawings are accurate, clearly dimensioned and compliant with company standards.

Technical coordination

• Raise and track RFIs with engineers, clients and architects, and record approvals and revisions.
• Manage drawing revisions and keep the model and drawing register up to date.
• Liaise with the workshop, procurement and site teams to make sure drawings are practical to fabricate and erect.
• Estimate steel tonnages and support quoting where required.

Leadership and quality

• Check and sign off drawings produced by junior and intermediate draughtsmen.
• Mentor and train junior staff in Tekla and company detailing standards.
• Help improve Tekla templates, standard connections, macros and drawing standards.
• Meet project deadlines and report progress and risks to management.
