About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Sustainable Design Architect to lead impactful projects in East London, Eastern Cape . This role focuses on integrating cutting-edge sustainable practices into coastal development projects, ensuring environmental responsibility and long-term viability. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing innovative architectural designs that are sensitive to the unique ecological challenges and opportunities of the coastal environment. You will be responsible for driving the sustainability agenda across projects, from conceptualization through to construction oversight, and will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts. This is a critical position for an architect passionate about creating resilient and eco-friendly structures in a picturesque setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design process for significant coastal development projects, with a strong emphasis on sustainability.
• Develop detailed architectural plans, specifications, and visualizations, incorporating sustainable materials and systems.
• Conduct thorough site analyses, considering environmental impact, coastal dynamics, and local biodiversity in East London .
• Collaborate with environmental consultants, structural engineers, and urban planners to achieve optimal sustainable outcomes.
• Ensure all designs meet or exceed national and international green building standards (e.g., LEED, Green Star SA).
• Oversee the specification of sustainable materials and energy-efficient technologies.
• Manage project documentation and compliance with environmental regulations pertinent to the Eastern Cape coastline.
• Mentor junior architects and designers on sustainable design principles and practices.
• Present design concepts and sustainability strategies to clients, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Architecture with a specialization in Sustainable Design or equivalent.
• A minimum of 10 years of post-graduate architectural experience, with a significant portion focused on sustainable design and coastal projects.
• Demonstrated expertise in green building certification processes and sustainable technologies.
• Proficiency in architectural software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and energy modeling tools.
• In-depth knowledge of coastal engineering principles and environmental resilience strategies.
• Strong understanding of South African building regulations and environmental legislation.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Professional registration with SACAP.
• Experience working in the Eastern Cape region is an advantage.
